Considering that my first car caused my teenage friends to coin the phrase "who needs a 4x4 when you have a 626"... yeah, I'm with the crowd, life expectancy will drastically increase if you roll with something a bit more modestly powered than a WRX to start with. In general, I think a Subaru is a good first car, first off, they're reliable, and people buying their first car generally can't afford to have a car needing repairs often.
