We try to prevent humans from killing each other. If I see my dog trying to eat his own feces, I try to stop it.
If my daughter was being coerced (and you know damn well it happens) into 'hooking up' with someone before she was ready it is my responsibility as her parent to try and prevent that. There are many ways to do that, but most important and effective is open communication and education about the physical, emotional and social reprecussions associated with giving it up to a horny 19 year old that doesn't give a #### about her on any but a sexual level.

I agree with all that. Doesn't change the fact that when it get's hot and heavy all logic goes out the window. There are plenty of aggressive young girls out there too. Doesn't necessarily mean they have low self esteem, or aren't aware of the consequences of sex.
Its teenage hormones and the desire to have sex is a number one or two primal instinct up there with survival.
If teens are having sex who the hell are we as adults to say it's bad. That would make us hypocrites because we were all there at one point in our lives too.

I don't know how old your daughter is or if you're just speaking hypothetically but, assuming she's 17, would you charge the 19 year-old with stat rape because your daughter displayed poor judgement?

Where did I say anything remotely contrary to any of that?

Actually have been in that situation, but I wasn't speaking of that situation in my posts. She was 16 and he was 19 when they met.
No, we didn't try to do that or even think about doing that.
We did forbid her from seeing him for some time. That had nothing to do with sex, but conveniently prevented it from being prevalent.

However, when you tell someone a law is heavily enforced (especially with the Canada vs USA dynamic we have here on calgarypuck) I'm not confident that they will come to the appropriate conclusion.

I can't be responsible for educating everyone on the difference between enforcement and reporting with 'crimes' like this, that's something that comes down to the intelligence of each individual. I'm pretty confident in the intelligence of the people who were involved in the original discussion last night, assuming fotze wasn't involved, in which case I'd be confident in his comic stylings.
