Riders are taking all the players I want lol
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have agreed to terms with American linebacker Jameer Thurman and, barring anything unforeseen, he’s expected to sign a one-year contract for the 2024 season, per sources.

This is the cost of these one year deals. I do miss the days when you got to see good players play on your favorite team for years instead of one or maybe two years max as we are now in an era where you just buy jerseys without player names. It's funny how you have to spend the first month of the season getting used to all the different players on different teams

Yeah true, it's almost like college in that regard.
I'm personally ok with wearing a jersey of somebody who isn't on the team anymore, the key for me is the luck in hopefully picking someone who's remembered well by the fanbase and left a good legacy.
For example, I got a Jeremaine Copeland jersey back in 2005 that to this day I still get compliments on. I narrowly chose that over Joffrey Reynolds thank goodness, that one hasn't aged well...

I think Awe led the league in tackles in 2023 more due to the fact that the Stamps defense spent way too much time on the field. Reminded me of JC Sherritt and those bad Edmonton teams.

Not officially, but players can start negotiating with teams. Nothing is officially official until February 13th.

Pending free agents can negotiate with teams across the league during the current window, which closes on Feb. 11. Players can agree to terms on a contract with a particular team for 2024, however, these deals aren’t legally binding and can’t be finalized or made official until after free agency opens on Feb. 13.

I don't consider leading the league in tackles as necessarily a good thing as it usually means your defense was either on the field a lot, lots of runs were getting to the 2nd level, and a lot of short/intermediate passes completed on the defense. The NFL for example doesn't glorify that stat like the CFL does for this reason.

It is funny though that former Stamp Alex Singleton has been at the top or near the top of the NFL tackles list for several seasons (didn't matter if it was with the Eagles or Broncos).

He's always been a very good tackler which is a bit of a lost art these days and the Broncos defense for the first half of the season was horrible so plenty of opportunities to tackle ball carriers. He's making pretty good dough from the Broncos which is nice to see.

I like this signing as well...
The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed American defensive back Kobe Williams, who was eligible to become a free agent next week.
The five-foot-ten, 180-pound defender made 18 starts this past season, 12 at boundary halfback, five at field-side halfback, and one at field-side cornerback. He made 45 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, four special teams tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and eight knockdowns.

I'm pretty happy with this signing. Dave does a very good job developing QB's so I would expect him to show his best with the Stamps. If we don't see any improvement in Maier's game this season I wouldn't be shocked to see Dave move quickly to Schiltz.

Can't be worse than Maier or Old Levi Mitchell.

Ouch, this is a big loss for the Stamps.
The Montreal Alouettes have agreed to terms with Canadian defensive tackle Derek Wiggan and, barring anything unforeseen, he’s expected to join the team on a one-year contract for the 2024 season, per sources.
The 31-year-old played all 18 games for the Calgary Stampeders last season, his fourth consecutive campaign without missing a contest due to injury. He finished the year with 16 defensive tackles and four sacks, tying a previous career-high set in 2019.
