Let's put the confetti away though - this isn't a lock - let's (hopefully) celebrate heading into year 3 or 4
The time for confetti is now. This is a good deal today, and probably an unequivocal steal within two years.

Great signing. He's good on the ice, but a pretty huge part of the dressing room too from all reports
It was telling to me when he was the first guy they had pick the music for practice.

Seems like a great room guy.

Brodie has been playing really well, for some time now.

I would be much more open to Hamonic being moved.

Love it.

I look forward to seeing the Oilers pay Nurse two million more than Andersson. For my money, he's a superior defenceman (one year younger as well).

To be honest, if I’d been forced to predict his AAV for a 6 year deal, I would have been closer to 4 but I probably under appreciated the leverage RFA’s seem to have now.

In the last 2 years of this deal, Rasmus will be worth $8 million plus on the open market (even more as the cap grows) and this contract will be one of the best in the league.

Honestly, I think this will be a bargain by years 2-3. Andersson has the potential to be a #1 guy.
Well, there is some risk to it. Any time you're banking on the player continuing to improve, there is always the risk that they won't. However, that risk is pretty low in this case, as he has been on a pretty solid and consistent upward trajectory.

Very good chance that he becomes a perennial top pairing guy. And if he does, this contract isn't just great, it's Josi-esque.

Even as a 2nd pairing guy, this is a really good contract. Great, even.

Hamonic as good as gone IMO.

I think we see the club add two quality forwards by the deadline.

Do you think the Flames will move Hamonic for a forward?

He's come a long way. At one point it looked like his conditioning was going to hold him back but he's proven to be a great young Dman. Hopefully he keeps improving and solidifies himself as a top pairing guy for years to come.

Great signing. Actually think that Rasmus has more offensive ability than he's shown so far. Can see him putting up more points along with great defensive play in the next few years.

I think it’s more likely he’s moved for picks in a separate deal.

When I said deal I meant signing. Guess it wasn't that clear though.

Almost 2 years young (well 18 months), but 2 draft seasons younger anyway.

Good signing. I think Razzy has a ways to go before he starts commanding $8-10M as a UFA, but he’s definitely trending up and is already making strides to be a regular top 4 with top 2 potential.

Interesting to hear Treliving talk on 960 about him being part of the core. With him and Tkachuk both having dads who played in the NHL, you can tell these guys are comfortable being part of the leadership group.

I posted this when he got drafted:

Glad to see it pay off. Great value for a second round pick!

So 6.5 per is probably the high Scenario going year by year. 3 million per is probably if his development were to stall today. So 4.5 is roughly half way between the two potential outcomes. The only question is whether the 1 million extra spent the next 2 years good be better spent in the Gaudreau window.

Overall a good deal to keep cost certainty for the next 6 years on what could be a cornerstone player.
I like the contract, but there is no way he will be a #1 defenseman, maybe he can become a #2 in time. Most likely a good 2nd pairing defenseman for most of this contract which would be great.

No way? None?

Were you saying the same thing of a 23 year old Gio?

It certainly seems like it could be possible. Not sure why you’re so adamant about limiting his upside. I personally think Valimaki more likely to be a #1 but Hanifin, Andersson and Valimaki all have the tools to be top pairing dmen.

lol he’s already able to play top pairing minutes and the contract hasn’t even started yet
