I really don't think Origin is that bad. Fantastic download speeds.
It's really not, just an inconvenience that we have no choice with. To me it's like if they only sold the game at EB Games and no other retailer.
I'm not about to start boycotting games because of it though, sure I prefer Steam and would like the option of using Origin or Steam or any other online retailer. But it's not enough for me to refuse to buy a game I REALLY want to play like it is for some people.

Getting back to the game, did anyone else ever build a city with no police protection at all. I got up to a city of a million people and the whole thing looked like the ghetto from some really bad 70's blacksploitation movie.
Everybuilding was boarded up, every low residential neighbourhood looked really shabby.
It got really awesome I had casino's offering me money to setup.

Looks good. Wish they didn't allow you to just place buildings in whole. Even if you're putting in landmark buildings or gifts, they should show them being built and not dropped. I also wish they would have gotten rid of the "extruding" construction animation. Buildings don't slide out from the ground.
Apparently there was some gameplay video released by simcity today, but I can't seem to find it on their origin area or whatever that section of their website is called. Did anyone see the video?

This was in the video game thread.

That video response is quite accurate, IMO. I realize they have 6 months of development left, but there are a few changes that have me worried. Most notably, is that I prefer to build very large cities that pose big city problems: traffic, crime, pollution, etc, and find innovative ways to deal with them. So far, they only gameplay footage I have seen is of towns and the screenshots of maps seem to indicate that I will not be able to build a huge city.
Secondly, I found I had the most fun dealing with traffic issues by building these really complex road and mass transit systems which employed a mix of massive freeway systems, bus lines, subways, and ferries. So far, I haev only seen really simple bus lines and I am concerned.
I am still excited about this game and hope that this stuff gets addressed soon.

Have the developers themselves said that building very large cities will not be possible, or is it just rumour based on this one video? Because perhaps there are regions with bigger areas or something? I haven't been following the game development close enough to know.
And here's a new video I found:
It does say cities are the size of a medium sized city in Sim City 4.

Yeah, just the medium sized city thing, which is 2km X 2km. I built a city on the NYC map that was made up of at least 15 of those plus a couple large cities (I was much younger with way more time on my hands), and that is the type of experience I was hoping to have again.
From the videos and a few blog posts from people that have played early builds, it appears they are really focusing on the interactions between smaller cities, as opposed to building mega cities.
