Lazar has done nothing to impress me so far. Not sure what's keeping him around.

We traded a 2nd rounder for him not even a year ago
Protected him in the expansion draft
Coming off a bad season/Mono diagnosis
First 2 pro games since spring
It's friggen pre-season

Tons of reasons to still see Lazar around right now.

I don't think it's you he needs to impress.

I'm aware-most teams are aiming at achieving the same model, but where it concerns Bennett is that the "1C" centre doesn't get the same quality linemates or PP time....

Sorry, don't agree. These are excuses to keep him not examples of his play so far. We criticize all the other prospects but not him????

At this point he's a bottom 6 option. He is aware that he needs to impress a lot more if he wants more ice time. If he sucks, well then he is sitting out as the 13th forward. I still think he has upside as a solid bottom 6 option, but we'll have to see his play during the season.

Do you seriously not grasp how Lazar's prioritizition and waiver status ensure that he will be on the opening night roster?

If Bennett is as good as many of us believe him to be he will be fine regardless of who is in his wing.

Bennett is going to get softer matchups and he'll get to play with Versteeg. Not like they're sticking him with Hathaway.

Bennett should be getting powerplay time this year with Monahan and Gaudreau instead of Ferland.

I thought Lazar was very good in the Vancouver game (relative to the other Flame forwards). Sure, he didn't score on the chance where he was in alone, but I thought he was very effective otherwise.

Sorry don't agree, I do think criticizing prospects is warranted - no he hasn't looked great yet after .. 2 showings in pre season a year removed from his low point season - but to say he should be sent down as a waiver eligible player based on this kind of sample size would not be very Treliving like. There's at least a good 10 if not more teams that would happily claim Lazar which would be a brutal return on a 2nd round pick.

I personally thought lazar played a really smart game last game. Every time I noticed him with the puck he made the right play, he definitely deserves to stick around.

Bennett is not McDavid/Crosby. Every other so called "#1C" has an offensively top tier linemate and played PP1. Toews had Sharp, Hossa, Kane, Saad. Bergeron has Marchand. Kopitar had Justin Williams and a prime Dustin Brown. Barkov has Huberdeau and had Jagr. Monahan has Gaudreau and had Hudler. Backstrom has Ovechkin. Couture had Marleau(and on PP, Thornton/Pavelski/Burns). Stamkos has Kucherov and had MSL. Scheifele has Wheeler, Ehlers, Laine. Getzlaf has Rakell and had Perry. Sedin had Sedin. Etc. Even Daysyuk and Zetterberg played on the same lines tons over he years.

I am not convinced Versteeg belongs with a single one of those names. I am convinced Brouwer belongs nowhere near them.

The best comparision case I can think of for the scenarioou present is Nazem Kadri last year. EVEN THEN Kadri is in the absolute prime of his career and may have put together the most underrated individual season in the NHL last year.

I liked the penalty he drew when he drove to the net and could not believe he didn't get 2 himself for running the goalie. He's skating well and he's going hard to the net, needs to work on his timing obviously but I'm intrigued to see how he progresses this year.

Solid post and point here; I like Versteeg but I do think a true talent is what's needed to help push Bennett's game further. Tkachuk could be that guy though IMO - he's a solid distributed of the puck, has a good shot, plays in your face and has a style that would compliment Bennett's game.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Bennett - Versteeg
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Brouwer - Stajan - Lazar
Hathaway, F. Hamilton

We have three solid Duos in the top 9 - Gaudreau/Monahan _ Tkachuk/Bennett _ Frolik/Backljund

He was no worse than Backlund, Frolik or Versteeg against Van. Not sure you single him out.

Is the stream on the Flames website real time only? Or could I hop on and start watching from the beginning about 45 minutes after puck drops?

For Chrome you have to disable asking permission to use flash and then it works.

Go into settings on chrome
click advanced on the bottom
go to content settings
choose allow flash to run on sites
