No, SN guys. The biggest reason the Jays lost today is 2 sweet meaningless f-all hits by the Jays, not the bullpen.

I love Martin but he needs to go along with Tulo, Smoak, Morales, Pearce and Donaldson. I really hope these guys have good years so they can be moved for something. Throw Gibbons out as well.
The Jays are not building towards anything so if you are going to lose you might as well do it with youth and build towards something. I am not saying throw a couple of 19 year old kids in there but there are guys in the minors ready to play and maybe they just might give this team a little bit of a spark.
Lots of turnover this year but it feels like the same old Jays.

The good: the MLB season is underway.
The bad: everything about that game
The ugly: Donaldson's arm
Odds right now on Stanton breaking Bonds single season record?

Sigh.
Might as well file this Jays season in the same cabinet as the flames season if Donaldson isn't 100%.
They need him to be a 6+ WAR player to have a shot.

I know it’s one game in but Donaldson playing with an arm injury just seems so consistent with how this organization deals with injuries to its top players.

Yup. Not sure why our training staff is so brutal. There’s a long history of this. Donaldson should be DH but that plug Morales can’t do anything else.

Gibbons also said that Tulo's bone spurs were not expected to be an issue this spring.

Jays on pace to lose 162 games. They have really dug themselves a hole.

That Yankees lineup isn't easy to get through. Stanton is just so effortless in his swings.

How you build a winning team, knowing that you have 2 blue chippers one year away....
You trade out all of the guys with value without a future on the club. Morales, Donaldson, Pillar, Pearce and Smoak.
You keep the guys that have unmovable contracts, but can still play (when healthy), to mentor the young guys. Tulo and Martin.
Most importantly, you give your AAA guys some time on the team. Why? Because if just one of them takes off at the higher level, you're rebuild jumps forward an entire year. The majors are littered with late bloomers who were given a chance. The Jays own superstar is one of them. Their previous superstar is another.
Not at all what Shapiro-Atkins is actually doing this season.
My expectations are so low, I'm seriously hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

If they win as many as 75 games this season, I’ll be shocked. This is a terrible team. I’ll still be watching because I love baseball and the Jays but sheesh, it’s going to be a struggle.

I'm just really, REALLY hoping our outfield come June looks like this;
Hernandez - Grichuk - Alford
It's the immediate future and it's what needs to happen. I also want to see Solarte get some semi regular playing time - our team will be miles ahead.

I agree, but Alford needs to stay healthy. So damn frustrating that he's out again.
I imagine Solarte will get some playing time now with Donaldson's arm/shoulder issues. They will likely DH JD which bumps Morales out.

Tulowitzki to undergo surgery on his feet.
No, that isn't a typo. Plural foot.

Yeah was somewhat expecting something like this.
Brunt isn't one to rumor monger at all, so when he said yesterday that he wasn't sure Tulo would play at all this year, you knew it wasn't going to be good.

I don't understand in sports how teams allow players to sit on their ass during the off-season and when they come back they do the surgery? It happens in baseball more than any other sport and as a fan it's frustrating. There weren't any expectations from Tulowitzki, but when you don't "discover" this stuff months before, it's damn stupid of him and the organization.
Anyway, Harry Lime, baseball is one of those sports where you gotta ease guys in a bit. The Jays have traditionally done an alright job of doing so, but every now and then they've rushed some up and it hasn't worked out. Even they have two stars in the making, there have been prospects littered throughout baseball who have had higher ceilings who haven't panned out. You gotta be patient with what you have and only when a guy is ready move him up. They have the luxury of a semi-competitive minor league team, so develop them there. Spring training was a good enough taste.
