No other rival cities in Utah. May as well draw from the whole state.

I remember during the Olympics, one of the figure skaters described it as being like skating in a canyon with all the retracted seats.

Now, at least they have a huge replay screen, so the obstructed view seats will still be able to see the action they're missing.

Last month, the Utah governor signed a bill to set aside money to build a new arena downtown near the Delta Center.

Realistically, the new building in SLC will be open at least as soon as the most hopeful schedule for Arizona. With the retracted seats, the Delta Center can still hold 14,000 for hockey. Even if they tarped over the obstructed view seats, it will still have at least double the capacity as ASU.

Given recent state court decisions, I doubt that Arizona is in line for a Professional Women's Hockey League franchise either.

I live in Utah and I hope you guys keep your view that it sucks and stay away. The population is already growing too fast.

Unlike the AZ billionaire, this guy at least has worked with the state to pony up some money for this. We’ll see if opponents keep popping up the way they did in Arizona.

Flaky billionaire is Ok.
Dishonest billionaire with reputation for screwing over vendors and creating a hostile work environment is not quite as ok.

You're right. They should go for something with dignity like "the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim".

IIRC, SLC is pretty brown during the winter. Dusty brown. I spent a day there on lay over back in the day.

Loved that you could still smoke in the airport though, that's a cool.

Pretty well every NHL owner is a flaky shyster, depending on who you talk to.

I usually drive through the greater SLC area at least twice a year, and it feels like the longest city in existence. It’s like an hour and a half of buildings/lights as far as you can see from the interstate.

I imagine that’s because of the mountains/water on either side containing the population into one long strip. But the city feels ginormous because of it.

Excited to see the Flames play there in the future.

Finally. Politics and weak business decisions made it a drain on the league for decades. Wonder if they will still be the team where bad contracts go to die.

No, that doesn't reckon with the petty municipal rivalries, endemic to these rural states. If you don't have an "inclusive" name, you might not even draw support from Provo.

Just don't expect to find a decent sports bar to have a drink in, after the game!

I wonder where SLC would rank in terms of entertainment/nightlife from player perspectives, just above Edmonton and Winnipeg?

It will be interesting to see how the economy of the league works if the Coyotes are spending to the cap
