I'm not very high on Brodie, but I've soured on the idea of trading him mid-season. At this point, it makes little sense. However, I think he should certainly be traded in the offseason, no question.

You guys are right. That was not a very good contribution to the discussion. Alex Wennberg would be a significant risk. I guess the benefits are that he is 24 and scored almost 60 points a few years back. If the Flames could get him and then rejuvenate him, it could be a significant get.

The Flames will score fine. The only better offense in the NHL is Tampa Bay. Brodie is a big part of the offense as well.

TJ Brodie is not expendable, right now.
Subtracting you #2 defenseman is pretty risky. Even if you're replacing him with another #2 defenseman, there's no guarantee that defender will be able to support Mark Giordano and the rest of the defensive core the way Brodie does.
I agree he has a fair bit of trade value, but if anything that will increase after a playoff run.
It just does not make sense to trade TJ Brodie right now in the Flames season.

Brodie just makes too many brainfarts, he's solid for a while and then falls off a cliff

Plus Andersson has been looking pretty good with Gio.

The whole point is you don't send a shockwave through the dressing room by trading a guy like him just before the playoffs, especially when you have been the 2nd best team in the league, class of the western conference for most of the season.
It's an offseason move, any smart GM knows that so we shouldn't waste more time on it.

Zuccarello would be my second/third choice after Stone or Hayes.

Playoff hockey tightens up. Goals are harder to get. Kreider brings much more than Brodie. He has a nasty physical edge that we need.

That statement could apply to several players on the Flames including the super star.

Just makes little sense to move an established NHL player right now when you could move picks and prospects now, and move said established player in the summer and recoup some picks and prospects.
Unless the picks and prospects you have to trade aren’t getting it done I suppose.

What I find weird about Brodie is that I don't think he makes a lot of mistakes but when he does make a mistake, it usually ends up in the back of our net

I wonder if getting and signing Hayes also helps to re-sign JG down the road.

Too bad about Zuccarello if true, but I think Hayes and Nyquist would be more impactful. And obviously Stone.
Seeing the market value for a tier 2 player will help us gauge whether Brad would have a chance or the appetite to snag one of these guys.

Not going to pretend to know Gaudreau's inner circle but that'd be surprising. Johnny played with Hayes for three years five years ago. My guess is their will be much bigger factors then a College buddy when he's approaching free agency
