Brodie is expendable right now. His value is high and i have no problem trading him for a top 6 scorer.

Defenders averaging 22 minutes a night are anything but expendable on a cup contending roster.
If Brodie is moved it is because of a perceived can't miss opportunity.

It's an interesting discussion (especially if the deal is something like McQuaid+ Kreider for Brodie + spare part), bu this really weirds me out as a TD deal between a buyer and a seller.
I do get the sense that the Flames management is looking to get Valimaki and Stone playing in the NHL prior to the playoffs, but giving up someone that can be the difference between winning and losing (see Brodie last night) prior to the playoffs is weird...

Brodie should most definitely get traded
...in the offseason.

I am all for moving Brodie in the offseason, but unless GMBT has a plan to replace him outside of the current roster, I am weary. we dont know what shape or form Michael Stone is in. Prout is no good and if Valimaki comes up, that is 3 rookie defenseman in the playoffs, Hanafin who has never played in the playoffs, and Hamonic who has played very little. I often question how much experience matters, but still. That is risky

Is there any example of a team trying to add for the POs doing a deal that gets rid of a top 2 or even top 4 guy like Brodie?

He's played 99% of the season on one of the top D-pairings in the league, on the league's 2nd best team. I can't imagine they'd break that up a month before the playoffs. This is a trade you make in the off-season, not when you're going all-in on a post-season run. The top 6 doesn't need the kind of boost that blows up your top D pairing. We're talking about the 2nd highest scoring team in the league.

Expendable?!?!?
The Flames are the best team in the West and their #2D is now no longer needed because he had a rough couple games?
All the other playoffs teams are overspending to acquire D but the team at the top of the conference is going to do the opposite?
The Flames goaltending has been a rollercoaster so they're going to deplete their defence to possibly get more scoring?
Top pairing defensemen on a sub 5 million dollar contact for this year must grow on trees...
Brodie must be having a down year for points then. 31 in 60gp.
I'm running out of reasons to make him expendable...

Im talking about adding Kreider. I would do that any day of the week. We would be a better team with him. Yeah i like Brodie but we need scoring for the playoffs.

Is Brodie expendable right now? Not really.
If Brodie is the piece that gets you a guy like Stone can he be traded? Yes
Ideally you would like to keep Brodano together and let Rasmus play 3rd pair minutes moving up if needed due to injuries.
What you can not have imo is a situation where Brodie is forced to play the left side, as to me he looks lost over there.

Darryl Sutter is on the FAN right now. His last while as GM was marked with bad trades but still worth listening to as the man knows hockey

2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors
In response to Kybb, you don’t ever trade a top pairing D for a rental winger unless they’re in the running for the Art Ross.

Doesn't seem an upgrade at C on either Jankowski or Ryan.

Kreider is not a rental.
