Come on. There's nothing funnier than a goal going in while a defender has his arm up in the air feet stuck to the ground nstead of defending. Like the first German goal the other day.

Some people find a tactical low scoring game that doesn't future many errors and long build ups, to be exciting. Some people find high scoring shoot outs with sloppy play and several errors, exciting. It's the same in many sports. Quite often an exciting game (scoring wise) is a poorly executed game. Personally I enjoy the strategic chess match.
EDIT: Pretty much what Jimmy Stang said.

Very disappointed with Ronaldo and many of the players on both sides in the match today. Blatant diving all over the pitch. Have to agree with rubecube, Ronaldo shows flashes of brilliances that leave you in awe and love him, then minutes later hits the ground when hardly touched and hate him. Just stay up and dominate like you can, will ya!

Further to the diving talk, I forgot to mention this yesterday. It's crap like this that gives people all the ammo to bash soccer. De Rossi should be fined and banned at least one game for that. What a joke.

We already discussed the De Rossi incident to death.

Its weird to me that North Korea's good player isn't even North Korean. Apparently he has a maternal connection and his dad is South Korean but he was born and raised in Japan with a South Korean passport that he actually turned in to play for NK.

I appreciate how soccer doesn't tinker with the rules frequently like the NHL. It would be one thing if changes were made to improve the game but it seems like to me that NHL changes have almost exclusively been made to cater to commercial interests and dwindling North American attention spans. I don't think it's superior but I love the respect for tradition and history.

You think that's bad, in 2002, Poland's best player was from Nigeria.

The horns aren't NEARLY as bad at the Brazil - NK game. I actually even heard some singing come through.

By the way, for the Itlians, Buffon is more than likely done after having injured his back in the game.

Quote:
IRENE, South Africa -- Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has a "serious" back problem and the team physician said Tuesday it's uncertain whether he'll be able to play again in the World Cup.

Buffon exited Italy's 1-1 draw with Paraguay on Monday at halftime, and was replaced by backup keeper Federico Marchetti.

Team physician Enrico Castellacci said the problem was with the left side of Buffon's sciatic nerve, adding that "at the moment, no date can be set for his return."

After watching the first 20 minutes of this game, I think the main thing that gets me in Soccer is the diving. Brazil and Korea are actually fighting each other for the ball and making good challenges with a decent amount of physicality. They're not going down so easy, which helps the flow of the game, which has led to pressure on both sides.

I can even appreciate the one on one defence, because they can actually do something without a player falling over.

It's not so much country of origin stuff as much as perspective, most of the western world has largely villanized North Korea so that a player from Japan chose them surprises me from an outside point of view, that said I'm pretty ignorant to Asian politics.

So it's 40 minutes in and Brazil has yet to score on North Korea. I guess someone is holding hostages.

Soccer: On any given day any team can be boring as hell.

You underestimate the power of Glorious Leader. He is sending telepathic commands to Brazil to suck.

You must be a true blue Italian fan then. The offside trap is a skill, sure, but the only ones who actually appreciate it are the Italians.

Fascinating watching the North Koreans defend against the Brazilians. Have to give them a lot of credit, they are very well organized.

That's not quite how I expected that game to look. Sure, Brazil has all the possession, but not much for even somewhat decent chances. I guess that is what happens when Korea DPR has 9 men back in the box the whole game.

I thought as Flames fans we're supposed to appreciate the art of boring low scoring, defense first matches

Hmmm really would like to see some goals today. Who would have though halfway through the 3rd game and only New Zealand has scored a legit goal.
