I would love the addition of multimedia text messages. However, that could just be a pipe dream on my part.

Ya, a sales rep told me no access fee with Fido.
Speaking of which, in terms of coverage, is there any difference between Rogers and Fido?

Thanks for all the input to my questions. I think I'll try to cheap out and get the 8 gig.
As for plans, based on what I have decided to do, I am going with rogers because I absolutely need my5 canada wide. (My10??-I wish I was a student). Rogers has a smart phone plan (250 minutes/500g of data/my5 national) for $45, then I am going to add a $15 bundle with 2500 sent texts/visual voicemail/call display/etc. Total should be just over $70/month.
Looked at Fido, but with no my5 option it was a non-starter for me.

For those of you about to buy an iPhone, I would wait to see what comes of this announcement. I could see a bump to 16gb, 32gb.
I expect to see push notification for applications is finally done and something for web devs. The work Apple is doing with objective J and some of the new stuff 280 North is doing with Atlas, I expect a layer in which web apps can be wrapped and run and sold as though they were Cocoa apps through the app store.
This would be a direct assault on the ex iPhone people who defected to Palm and the Palm Web OS itself.
Sell your Palm stocks folks.
EDIT: Looks like Appleinsider an I are on the same page.

There is out of major cities, I think Rogers' rural coverage is better. You can add Rogers coverage to your phone for $5/month though.

I get a headache trying to read articles like that, as I don't know any of the technical jargon...but I really wish we could run an app in the background. I would absolutely love it if I could have Wunderradio on in the background while surfing the web or something.

Man you aren't kidding. This would be pretty devastating to the Palm Pre as it's biggest feature (imo) is the ability to run multiple apps at the same time.

9. Slim down your wallet.
If you're like most people, your wallet contains far more cards than you use every day: grocery club cards, insurance cards, frequent flier cards, auto club cards, and who knows what else? Here's a cool idea: Scan or photograph these cards and store them on your iPhone instead. The screen is large and crisp enough that you can even scan barcodes from it—so if you scan, say, a grocery store customer loyalty card, you can simply hold the image of the barcode up to the barcode reader and get your sweet discounts. You might get some odd looks now and again, but your wallet—and your buttocks—will thank you for it.

i might try this one!

My computer has hundreds of songs on it in iTunes. When I sync my iPhone to the computer, everything is transferred to the iPhone except my songs. My calendar, etc. all gets sent over to the iPhone. Is there someplace I have to check off to have the songs also transferred over the to iPhone? How do I find it?

When you sync your phone to iTunes, click on the device in the left hand column, and then you should be able to see a number of different headings in the main screen (Summary, Info, Ringtones, Music...etc). Click on music, and make sure the checkbox is selected to sync music. Then you can go through the other headings, and choose the settings you want for synching the other things.

re: the 8gb vs the 16 gb... I have an 8gb phone but also an ipod classic, and I use the ipod for listening to music, and the iphone for everything else and only as a music player when my ipod is not there. So for a few hours here and there, I don't need the 16gb, but if you don't have an ipod and want to use it for that as well, I can see going the bigger route.

When I'm traveling in the US, how do I disable my iPhone from connecting to networks so that I can access free wi-fi but it won't connect to Edge or 3G? I don't want to see roaming charges or any other charges, just be able to access free wi-fi. How do I do this?

Go to Settings > General > Network and turn Data Roaming off.

Thanks. So if I do that I'll still be able to use free wi-fi but there will be no data roaming or data downloads? Pardon me but I need to be careful because I don't want to see charges on my bill when I get home. Just wanting to make sure is all.

Keep in mind that if you have your phone on even if data is turned off, you can still get voice roaming charges, if your phone is on, you don't answer it, but they leave a voicemail, you'll get charged airtime for that voicemail.
