Congratulations to the new talents, but at the moment there are four of us playing another level of tennis: Sinner, myself, who is still second in the ranking, Alcaraz and Novak. All very competitive. I believe that we will be protagonists also in 2025 and that this will be a more balanced year than the previous ones.

Zverev will remain in the top 10 because he has a very good record when he plays guys outside the top 10. The issue is when he plays a guy inside the top 10 where he has a terrible record. The H2H with Meddy is now 13-7 in favor of the Russian but it should be pointed out that Zverev won five of their first six matches. Total domination by Meddy since that time.
The US Open this year is scrapping real mixed doubles for star studded doubles played over 2 days during qualifying week.
8 additional teams with the best singles records and 8 wildcard teams will complete the field of 32
I lied, it's only 16 teams, so the teams on the left are automatically in by ranking if they want to be and the teams on the right are 'pending' need wildcards, let's see who else enters etc....

Gabriel Diallo continues his fine play of late defeating Jaume Munar 7-5 6-3 in Mallorca on the grass. We all know he has a huge flat serve, but his kick serve is extremely effective to keep his opponents off-balance.

Good news and bad news regard8ing Wimbledon qualifying - Carson Branstine and Bianca Andreescu each won their respective opening round matches. The bad news is that they have to square off in round 2. It does ensure one Canadian will be in the final qualification round, however.

Tough loss for Leylah earlier today versus Jasmine Paolini as the Italian won 7-6(8) 7-6(7). The match lasted 2 1/2 hours and they both won the same number of points (103).

Pretty good result against the 5th player in the world.
Yeah, this was truly a match that could have gone either way. Leylah had a set point in the opening set (you can see it in the video above) and Paolini played a fantastic point to deny Leylah. Some very encouraging signs of late though from the young Canadian.
Victoria Mboko with a tough win just now over Nao Hibino 2-6 7-6 6-2 in Wimbledon qualifying. Rebecca Marino plays her first round match a little later today.

Gabriel Diallo advances in Mallorca just now defeating Laslo Djere 6-3 3-6 6-3. Another fine match from Gabe and he next faces Tallon Griekspoor which will not be easy.

Felix is into his 7th quarter-final of 2025 after a 7-5 6-3 win over Arthur Rinderknech. Looking pretty comfortable on the grass, he could make some noise at Wimbledon if he's serving well.

Felix actually hasn't made it to the QFs in a slam or 1000 level event since Madrid in 2024 and that seems to be a one off if you go further back it has really been since 2022 that he's had a string of consistent results at big tournaments.
Unfortunately, he really seems to mop up at these 500/250 events, only to promptly bow out to mediocre players in 1000s/slams. He can't get out of the unforced error fest when the pressure dials up.
I'm more hopeful that Diallo will make noise at Wimbledon if he can manage to avoid a death draw. He's painfully close to being seeded now as a top 40 player and for him that will make a massive difference in collecting easy points early.

It's such a shame he's been unwilling to change coaches. Most once promising young players that have struggled as much as he has over the past few years would start to look at changing anything and everything in hopes of turning the corner. He's content to keep doing the same things over and over expecting different results and the reality is that he's kind of plateaued into one of those top 50 players that has his moments a few times a year but is largely a non-factor in the larger events.

He's the 2nd seed here so he should be mopping up. More interested in how Diallo does.
Diallo, GMP, Hurkacz and Fonseca are probably the unseeded players that everyone wants to avoid at Wimbledon. Although GMP is next to be seeded if anyone higher than him drops out.

GMP might have an injury issue as he pulled out of the Eastbourne tourney earlier today.
