Players in Canada can set up a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA) and limit their tax liability to a flat 20%. With sound tax advisors, a NHL player can actually pay the same or less tax in Canada than he will Florida or Vegas

a vast amount of offshore tax law pertains to the amount of time spent in Canada, an NHL player in a Canadian team spends a huge amount of time 'working' in the US every season and then can chose to spend the off season there, I have no doubt a decent lawyer can set it up so a player is domiciled in the US while playing for a Canadian team, hell in Vancouver they can live in Point Roberts and just commute into Canada for games and practices

I think it was a bigger difference when kids would get their dad to be their agent. Player now have dedicated teams covering all aspects of life.

However, I do think that they will also come back down to earth. Flames and Oilers will probably not continue losing this badly, and Vancouver probably won't continue winning this often. It is definitely a great start for them, and this is their best chance in a while at making playoffs. Will be interesting to see if they fall back down, or if they continue finding ways to win. It is an impressive start, whether or not you want to say it was lucky.
I still hate them though.

The Canucks are starting to look like the old Canucks. Edmonton started the game outshooting them 18-2 or something crazy.
Dallas also started the game with a point blank shot on Demko who made a miracle save.
All the warts are currently being covered by Demko and super timely goals that are unsustainable.
Like you can't start slow and have Demko making miracle saves all season while cashing in on very few opportunities against sieves.
At one point, that run ends.
I do feel like they built a solid enough lead points wise to think they'll make the playoffs but if we ever face them, we need to look at what the oilers did the first 10 minutes.

Play like your lives and loved ones depend on you winning?
The Canucks are not as good as their record right now. But your examples being from a game they shut out their opponent and a game they finished by outshooting their opponent over the final 45-50 minutes of the game are not the best choices.

Goaltending makes a huge difference, he is a very good goalie that's just been hurt and played on poor defenses. The canucks has a run in 2020 and nearly made the playoffs in 2022 with a worse defense than now, their offense and goaltending hasnt been the issue. Defense has- which is still an issue but improved.
They are a good team, not as good as their record is but i am not surprised that they will be in the playoffs this year, they have improved their problem areas moreso than the past few years under benning.

A fun question for everyone. Who is the best Canadian player on the Vancouver Canucks?
I find this interesting... the lack of Canadian players. It is interesting, I am not inferring anything negative by bringing this up. Why are so many Americans happy to play in Vancouver? Are they able to brush off the Canadian media pressure better than a Canadian player?
To answer my question. I would say the answer is Tyler Myers (he has dual citizenship).

Every American I've ever met that's been there likes Vancouver. They figure it's warm enough compared to other Canadian cities, clean (I guess compared to US cities) and attractive (all the parks plys ocean plus mountainsides). I would also guess hockey players figure it's more low key than Montreal/Toronto/Calgary/Edmonton as far as scrutiny goes.

Add Brisebrois, Friedman and Studnicka.
I wonder if this is the most American or international team ever for a Canadian team.

The Canucks are actually very good. The Flames are not very good, at all.
