Me too, thinking of heading to the mountains for some better weather.
Oh, oh my. Brings back nightmares of driving around Banff just before Christmas with the tow truck and starter fluid, endlessly failing to start vehicles that had become one with the glaciers.
The most discouraging part is at this time of year the sun rises above the mountain for about 1.5 hours, from 11:30 to 1. Better enjoy it! Dark days I tell ya.

Yeah no wind in the SW either.
I sure don't miss living in the NW, the constant nonstop soul sucking wind was brutal

Wind ruins everything. You can take the most beautiful day and if its gusting wind all the time its just the worst.
I dont mind cold days like today, you can plan for it, prepare for it, we're not shoveling tons of heavy, wet snow.
You just put your gloves, boots and toque on, your winter coat (I dont care what brand of coat, I'm not going there, I dont care, just let it go) and then you're good to go.
Add wind though and everything immediately sucks.
So yeah. This is okay.

To make everyone feel better, I know a couple from Ottawa who had a trip planned to go to Jamaica on Sunday. He wrecked his back so bad shoveling heavy snow on Friday that he can’t hardly move and they’ve had to cancel.

Here I was today wishing for a slightly warmer day for the hike we did -- it was -4C when we started -- ended at around +4.
We're supposed to hit -6 on Thursday with a touch of snow and that will probably be the coldest day of the year.
Even though I run pretty warm, I've come to love the warmth. Give me 25+ all the time.
Winter sucks.

I’ve been back from Mexico for a day. From velvety smooth skin and gentle breaths to cracked hands and a dry throat in less than 24 hours. Really need to work on an exit strategy that’ll work for my family, because this is a weird way to live man.

Would you believe there's people in this thread that prefer this to +30? It's nuts.

I'm ####ing off to Vietnam as soon as the kids are out of school and self sufficient. Calgary is a great city in so many respects, but the weather drags it down hard

And will shame you for liking 30+ by linking it to loving forest fires and wanting to watch the world burn. But nothing dangerous at all about -30 and roads becoming skating rinks..

Our two weeks of ‘extreme cold’ has just broken - daily highs of ~ -1 to +2. I’ve had two weeks of listening to colleagues and my wife exclaiming to me that it’s MINUS THREE!!!!!! And I’m looking back at them and I’m actually thinking, “this weather is FANTASTIC”! - No rain and sunny skies with snow underfoot that hasn’t turned to slush in five seconds flat.
Also, our path - the only one on the street that was clear. I fataing loved shovelling the snow.
