Sabres are being asked (apparently) by Vegas to eat cap themselves through retention - for the life of Eichel’s contract. If Calgary takes the whole salary and they just have to take on Zadorov for 1 year in which they can easily absorb it that’s a better deal for them on the cap front. They don’t have to look at a budget that pays Eichel to play for another team for 4 years. And Zadorov is at least a body and an NHL contract, which they still need to have

Interesting, they both looked somewhat "nervous" or "uncertain" when asked initially (eye glances give that away). They had to mask it. The organization will always put out fires before it's official. I sense that it is close. The stars are aligning from the Hamilton-Lindholm/Hanifin trade back in 2018. The media hype is crazy considering it is a rumour, I don't think players being asked in a PC if something wasn't imminent.. Thoughts?

They can’t really control the questions asked. Asking players about a potential trade is bad form IMO. Sure they could get a good player, but they know it means a couple of their friends might be leaving.

Just ask the GM those questions. Or don’t. He won’t tell you anything anyways. The players certainly won’t have any insight.

Its a stupid question to ask a player...no wonder they are not comfortable...not to mention they are probably wondering if they could be going to Buffalo or some of their best friends

Yeah, at this point the only news worth listening to (an actual trade break) is not going to come in some planned radio segment. It’ll be a random flurry of “it’s all happening” tweets from the usual suspects.

There is a difference between taking on a Zadorov (who with an expiring contract could be moved for value at the deadline) and taking on a Lucic (who could not be moved for value at the deadline, with another year to go on his deal).
