Game 6 more I was thinking. Not sure you needed 2 days off between 5 & 6 when you had two days off between 4&5 and 6&7.

I just feel like Saturday night has always been a night for big sporting events - especially for a city like Vegas. Sunday is a football (both american & european) day IMO.
But Saturday night is hockey night, and in Vegas it's sports/fight night. Usually filled with big PPVs, and just an overall busy night where the focus has traditionally been on big sporting events.

No team since 1942 has come back from a 3-1 series deficit to win the Stanley Cup. There could be some hope for the Knights as the Capitals have blown a 3-1 series lead 5 times in their franchise history.

They want the teams to be as rested as they can be between travel days instead of quickly finish a game that maybe went into triple overtime, rush to fly across two or three time zones, barely get a days break and then play again.

I looked back at the schedule and there was Game 1, then two days off and then Game 2. Travel across the country and only had one day between games 2 & 3. One day between 3 & 4 and one day between 4 & 5. Then they had two days between 5 & 6 and back to one day between 6 & 7. I don't remember seeing one team completely gassed but I think there was a comment about how tiring it is to do all that travel. They didn't change it for a few years because it looks like each year followed a very similar format. One day break between all games, except two days between 1 & 2 and two days between either 4 & 5 or 5 &6.
This is actually the third year for the current scheduling format for breaks. One day break between games in the same city and two days when they travel between cities.
|
The 2012 and 2014 Finals also had complaints about tight travel with the Kings-Devils and Kings-Rangers.
Looking back at the Canucks-Islanders 1982 SC finals and the Canucks-Rangers 1994 SC finals, strange scheduling. There were 2 days break between games 1&2 for the games on Long Island, then 1 day break between games 2&3 as the teams traveled, and then 2 days break between games 3&4 in Vancouver. The 1994 series again had 2 days break between games 3&4 in Vancouver and then for games 6&7.
The 2004 Finals only had a 2 day break once and that was between games 4&5.

I'm rooting for the Caps to win the Cup. But I kind of want to see Vegas win tonight so that the Caps can take it on home ice in game 6. OV weeping tears of joy as the home crowd goes wild would be one of those iconic scenes we'll see in Stanley Cup commercials years from now.
Then again, I'm sure Washington doesn't want to tempt fate and wants to win it all tonight. Should be a great game.

If the Caps win I'm looking forward to the visit with Trump. I'm sure he likes a team from Washington led by Russians. And with only 7 Canadians (with none in the top 6 scorers).

It's an amazing stat (not for Caps fans), but Washington is only 7-5 in their history when leading a series 3-1. So if anyone has what it takes to choke this away, it's the Capitals. So yeah if they don't win it tonight, look out.

If anyone can break tradition and come back it's the GKs. They are norm busters.

I'd agree based on this season, but the Caps have just totally out classed them in the last 3 games IMO. Plus they almost look gassed out there.
I do think Vegas wins tonight, but I think they lose in game 6.

Wow, there's a game tonight? Feels like it's been a week since the last one. Stupid NBA finals.

I'd prefer to see Ovi carting it around on the Vegas strip.

No way! I want this to go 7. This is way too much fun. Best hockey of the season.

Yeah I'm hoping the series gets extended tonight . I'm torn thinking about Trotz and OVI winning after what I'll refer to as time served.
However.....
The knights (golden misfits) story is just too delicious. They earned every single bit of the success they have.
I feel bad for McPhee and Gallant coming this close.....but what a story to build off.
I am a big MAF , Neil and Engelland fan and others have grown on me as well .
This has been a very entertaining playoffs and I really hope our people have been paying attention.......Willie???
Go Knights Go

Still hoping for Golden Knights but if none of the players can block the views from Holtby and the shots are all going wide or hitting the posts, it's tough to win. This is where size do matter. Just don't understand how the Jets checked out in 5 games with their size and speed.

The Jet’ s inexperienced players , of which there were many, floundered badly for the most part.

They got weaker goaltending at a bad time. Laine and Ehlers didn't perform that well. Buf was Buf (that is to say, risk of poor play and penalties versus reward of physicality and a good shot and the risk won out in that round).

I'm with you. I want the Knights to lose and I want to get on with the trades, etc. Yeah the hockey has been great but I don't want to see Vegas get any life. Plus once it ends we're 48 hours away from buyouts.
Cough. Brouwer. Cough.
