Squirrel, nut, etc. Or more likely, I just hope he's wrong.

I am of the crowd that believes
Yeo and Gulutzan are not the only two in the final group. Probably at least 2 or 3 more names in there. These are just the only two that anyone seems to be confirming from their sources.

We will probably get an announcement one day and it will be neither of these two names.

It's not like that team is any good as that staff got schooled by Harley in last year's playoffs.
That is the thing for me. One of the main reasons the Flames beat the Canucks in 2015 was the Flames out coaching the Canucks. The Canucks were a veteran laden team that had several players from their cup run intact and they got rattled by a 22/23 year old fringe NHLer who finished all of his checks. I know Willie is calling the shots there but I really remember Flame and Canuck fans alike talking how Hartley completely out coached Dejardins

I can live with it.

He had a lot of success as head coach in the ECHL (although no championships), but his two seasons as head coach of the Dallas Stars were not overly successful (no playoffs). He's been an assistant in Vancouver since then, working with Tortorella and Desjardins. Those aren't the most inspiring coaching mentors, and Vancouver hasn't been very good. In fact they are no good.
Know who else was mentored by Tortorella? Mike Sullivan, who is coaching the crap out of this year's playoffs and then some.

Here's an article google popped up on GG:

I also believe Engelland played for him, so he could be giving him backing as well as Shinkaruk.

Not sure about Yeo. Seems like the Wild had talent yet as stated by another poster they were plagued by dysfunction. Not a great indicator of a strong head coach.

Neither Yeo or Gulutzan inspire a lot of hope in me. Then again, I didn't think much of Hartley when we hired him, but he grew on me. I am willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt if they are hired.

Of the names being thrown around, I like Dineen, Bowness and Berube. Treliving as GM and Berube and HC would give us the most truculent suits in the league I think.

I fail to see why they'd opt for Gulutzan over Green when it comes to someone from that organization.....

Green has the track record and playing experience too.

Also Yeo's produced mediocre results at best in the NHL with a pretty decent club.

If these are two of the major players then wtf Flames management? How on earth are either a lateral move, let alone an upgrade on Hartley?

Additionally his GM in Dallas was Joe Nieuwendyk who previously worked for Brian Burke in Toronto.

How does Green have a better track record? He's never been an NHL assistant coach, let alone a head coach, he was barely s head coach in junior, riding shotgun to Mike Johnston until he was suspended.

Coach these days is as much about understand human and development psychology as anything else. Sure Green played in the NHL, close to a decade ago. A lot has changed since then.

I'm not saying that Green would necessarily be a bad choice, but he surely does not have a better track record than Gulutzan.

Aren't there like only 10 guys on an NBA roster?, maybe 12?

Probably, but did you notice how it wasn't a direct quote from Friedman, but a general statement about a team. Excellence point of detailed irrelevance though.

Yeah just don't understand the love affair everyone has with Travis Green. I would support it if they hired him because I know Treliving will have done his homework, but I just don't understand how fans on this board can be so for Green and so against other guys when we really have no idea who any of these guys really are.

Really the only coaches out there that I know won't work for the current edition of the Flames is Hartley. Other than that, I really have no idea who is the right person for the job, and i'm going to put my faith in the Flames management team.

This, so much.

The number of wins and losses that these guys have with other teams is pretty much the only thing I can go off of. But that doesn't help me know if it is going to translate to wins with this team though. Management has access to way more info and resources to make a better decision than we ever can.

I don't think too many people were raving about the Sharks hiring DeBoer, and lots of people agreed the McLellan hire was a good one for the Oil - both based off their track records.

It's good to keep an open mind. I trust management, this current group hasn't let me down so far!

Scratch Yeo off the list.

Lou Korac ‏@lkorac10
#stlblues announce Mike Yeo (associate coach) and Rick Wilson (assistant coach) have been hired.

#stlblues also announce Mike Yeo will take over as the head coach beginning with the 2017-18 season
