Not to take Hartley's side, but IF (and that is a big if) these quotes are accurate and true, how do you explain Hudler last year? Or Cammalleri? He loved Granlund right up until he got injured. Had nothing but great things to say about Reinhart, and Reinhart isn't exactly physical. Look at how he talks about Gaudreau this year.

Totally speculation here, but perhaps when Hartley tells Sven that he needs to battle more for the puck, Hartley means just be more aggressive and tenacious, but Sven is interpreting it as having to play very physical?

I am going to wait until more stuff comes out before passing any judgements. It just doesn't make very much sense to me at all when you take into consideration how Hartley treats the other prospects.

Baertschi can go **** off honestly if he has the same opinion as his dad's. Bottom line, he wasn't good enough to start with the team.

This is a bit much don't you think? Do you see a quote from Sven? Obviously his father is passionate and wants to see Sven take the leap, but let's not go overboard here.

Hartley seems to make a lot of enemies with players.

McKenzie was on the radio some time last year saying that coaches are more learned now than they have ever been with all the new metrics available to them. However, their biggest weakness seemed to be that coaches pick and choose players to like and dislike, for whatever the reasons may be. The players that the coach likes will always be given more opportunity than the others, and it's near impossible for the disliked players to get out of the dog house.

if (and again, that's a big IF ... quickly checked and there's nothing else in Swiss media than the standard "Baertschi assigned to Adirondack" news item) those quotes are completely true and Sven shares the same sentiment, then he's indeed done with Calgary IMO. Pretty similar to the Niederreiter situation a couple of years and of course, Sven will have watched that closely and will have heard from his Swiss buddy that after the trade to Minnesota, the grass is so much greener for him. From his father's comments, it sounds like he thinks his son is entitled to a roster spot because he simply put on some weight over the summer, but that obviously is only part of the development process. Thinking that Sven is entitled to a roster spot for whatever reason is obviously wrong and if Sven thinks the same, we indeed have a problem here.

honestly I'm really surprised by this. IIRC when Sven was drafted, he was heralded for his work ethic and the "good head on his shoulder". Sadly, a lot of quotes from Sven and his surroundings over the last couple of years have painted a slighty different picture in my opinion.

Awesome. A loosely translated tabloid article we don't even know is accurate and several venom filled over-reactions aimed at both the player and coach. Nice to see the total and complete over-reactions are right on cue.

I'm starting to feel like Sven may pull a Giordano and bolt to another league. Personally, I wouldn't blame him, if there's an element of truth to the article.

Not really surprised. This is what happens when you tell everyone you're picking a team based on merit alone, and then don't follow through on the promise. People get pissed and start getting dramatic.

While a good chunk of responsibility lies with Sven, the Flames definitely seem to have mismanaged his development. They want him to be a different type of player than he excels at being, and that never goes well. I like Hartley, but his treatment of Sven is his biggest black mark in my books. For some reason or another, he seems to just not like the guy.

Sven will be traded to a team that will let him loose, he'll start putting up points, and we'll all wonder what went wrong here. What went wrong is the coaching of him by Hartley right from the start.

Sven needs to make adjustments in his game and that's just a matter of him working on stuff in Addy. He's not far off. He just needs to be patient.

At this point they should trade Sven + whatever for a high-ish draft pick.

The Flames really aren't going to get something valuable out of an asset they don't value in the first place.

With regards to Sven staying up... Isnt there something about once a player on an ELC plays a certain number of games then he can no longer be sent down without having to clear waivers first? Is this part of the problem?

The only other thing I want to say is that last year Sven started out pretty good but was sent down because he wasn't playing a 2 way game enough? Why couldn't they have left him up and slowly allowed him to work on that while keeping his offence abilities intact... I felt then as I do now that he was and is a bit of a whipping boy for someone.. Hartley? Burke? ( And I love both of these guys)

A good prospect...or was... I can see why he is confused . A lot of Flames management present and past have blood on their hands over this as does the player himself now.. Might be time to try and swap him for a great D prospect. Sven deserves a chance to hit the reset button. Sometimes these things get too out of hand and its just too late....

I'm starting to think those three goals he scored in five games in 2011-2012 were the worst thing to happen to him, expectation wise.

Sven is exempt from waivers for another 92 NHL games.

He needs to keep any knee jerk reaction comments to himself (don't know what's been said, but it can't possibly do any good), and just go prove himself. Be one of the top players on Addy, and then I'll be able to say confidently that he deserves to be here.

It takes until 23, 24 with some players. I hope he remains patient, because he might have to be.

I'm a little surprised too.

However, I'm taking a more evidential view of all this. Sven was disappointed last year as well when he was sent to the AHL. However, he seems to have made a genuine commitment during the offseason and his play during training camp was much more balanced than previous years.

Therefore, I don't take his words of disappointment to be an indication of defeat, but rather more of a necessary venting. Right now Sven doesn't have much of a distraction from being cut. Once Addy's season gets into swing, Sven will have less time to think about being cut and more time to focus on hockey. That will be a good thing.

Also, I doubt that Sven is the first disappointed player that Huska has had to manage. I trust the coaching staff to change his focus rather quickly back to the ice, and I think Sven (and his father) will be happy with the results.

I don't see how people can say that he's been mistreated. I've never seen him play above the competition. When did he achieve the merits that would give him a spot in a perfect meritocracy?

Did the Flames release the results of fitness testing for training camp this year?

Last year he was 4th. Wouldn't be surprising to see if he finished 1st.
