and imagine if Bennett breaks out on top of that?

Term and dollars have to make sense but that would be a really nice fit. Skill, experience, leadership, likely a good pairing/mentor for Bennett. Just checks off all the boxes.
Patrick sharp would be a good fit too, I'm liking the rumours we're hearing from the Flames.

2017/2018 Trade Speculation and Rumors
Does Marleau know that the 8 year contract he's demanding can only be fulfilled by the Sharks? Pretty sure the last CBA limits all other teams to a max of 7 years.
Still, I'm interested.

We'll see what happens. It'd be weird seeing him in red.
Also, no #12 for him. (Jumping the gun, I know)

Would likely take a full NMC to get it done.
And that might be acceptable.

Just maybe Marleau wants to complete the circle, and bunk with Kelly Hrudey for the last years of his career

If we give up the third year AND the NMC, that salary number better start with a 4.

He's a 40-point winger at this stage of his career, it had better start with a 4 regardless.

That Patrick Marleau was a rookie with the Sharks, he bunked with Kelly Hrudey (who also played with the Sharks at that time)?

if Brouwer doesn't rebound and the Flames bring in another veteran at the downside of their career this could get ugly. Isn't loading up with washed up vets of the (many) things that started the Av's descent from up and coming team to trainwreck?

No, a nonexistent defense and poor management/coaching based on player history are the main things that left what should have been a promising team in the basement of the league.

Too much post-apex junk being discussed. No too all these old guys being brought in. Iginla can have a media or PR job around the team if he wants to be back in Calgary with the Flames.

Are we liking Marleau because he's a solid player and a good fit or because he's the best of the crappy UFA crop?
I feel like it's the later.
He's 37 and played with Joe Thornton for I'd guess a large part of his production last year. I personally have never been a fan of his and find he's complacent and on the sidelines of the most games from an emotional standpoint.

Marleau is not a complacent, emotionless player... this comment makes me feel like we aren't watching the same person.

Definitely agree with this line of thinking regarding adding another vet but the only thing that would sway me is if its a one year deal. Anything over 1 year and it gets messy, especially with us wanting to graduate some players here but if we can add a big veteran name for a 1 year deal it could push this club over the top.

From my perspective he is and has been most of his career. You're in favor of adding the player I take it.
I don't see the attraction at his age or likely contract ask.
My two cents.

Marleau or Sharp would be good adds, depending on the term of course. If the Flames do bring in a vet it needs to be someone with good foot speed.
I have a hard time believing the rumors that Marleau is asking for anything over 4 years at his age. It's just not going to happen, even 4 years is a stretch at this point. Ideally he could be signed for 2, maybe throw in a modified NMC to bring the cap hit down. Anything longer than that would be a big mistake IMHO.
They also need to keep opportunities open for young players. If they bring back Versteeg and add another vet it will create too much of a logjam, not to mention still having guys like Bouma and Stajan to slot in. Management needs to choose one or the other. It'll be interesting to see how things play out over the next few days anyway.
