We may be over valuing Brodie a bit here. Hes definitely a top 4 d man, his skillset tells us that. But I don't know if many teams see him as a top pairing d man.

Left wing unless he regularly plays his off wing.

If neal is indeed out for a while, getting Kreider is an upgrade on what Neal's done this year.
He already has 44 points in 60 gp.

No thanks to DeAngelo, the guy is a cancer.

The guy is instantly our most talented right defenseman.

The possibilities. Flip Krieder to Ottawa as part of package for Stone? And keep Hayes. Who knows what goes to Rags or Sens to make it all happen besides Brodie.
How many things has Millard broken over the years?

In a vacuum, the trade itself is intriguing and worth discussing, but the timing makes it far fetched to me.
All the talk of chemistry and adding not changing, experience blah blah blah. It just make no sense right now.
Perhaps they have had legitimate conversations, but I doubt it is about the deadline. Treliving has mentioned in the past that some of the trades he has made, the dialogue started months in advance.
Perhaps its a situation of: "Hey we really like Kreider, we may not be looking to do too much this Monday, but we may be looking to deal Brodie this summer. A Brodie for Kreider framework may be something we're interested in if you don't get any better offers this Monday."
A GM like Treliving isn't single minded, I bet most aren't. They probably have multiple scenarios of "If this then that" going on when it comes to player movement.

That's not Darren Millard. He retired from this. That tweet is from Dean Millard. TSN reporter.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Kreider-Backlund-Lindholm
Seems like the move would be Tkachuk to RW, which he has played before.]
The huge advantage of course, is he's a guy with term. He also might enable you to flip Frolik more easily.

I don't like the idea of trading Brodie this season. We need depth in the defence, not trade away our current depth.

Chemistry is a funny thing. If you do not have the depth then it will bit you in the arse. But the Flames have the depth. And I can see Tree do this deadline deal only because a forward group with Neal and Kreider and Tkachuk and Vennett and Hathaway is big, mean and built like a tank for a deep run. IMO, that's how you should roll into the playoffs, ready to take a beating. Kreider for Brodie makes a ton of sense heading into this year playoffs. For the Flames.

Assuming we trade away Brodie that is.
Andersson and Hamonic don't really even compare to his talent.

Is this some kind of genetic combining of Kreider and Kesler?

Spitballing:
NYR get Brodie and Jankowski and a Flames 3rd for Kevin Hayes and Kreider.
Kreider, Dube and a 1st to Ottawa for Stone.

If they make this move, it indicates a couple things: A huge amount of confidence in Andersson; and a strong feeling the Stone is going to be able to play very soon
Valimaki also provide some depth should an injury occur. Another depth D could be coming back as part of this, or another move.
We all say we want to keep all of Kylington, Andersson and Valimaki. You need to make a move like this to enable that. It is also more of a win now move than flipping Brodie for a pick before the draft. Kreider has some term.
