I wonder if a team like Dallas would take a chance on Dube. Not sure where he would fit into their lineup but Dube is consistently buried on the Flames depth chart, and he's been a consistent thorn in their side in past playoffs. He's got RFA rights, so maybe at least a 2nd rounder in return?

Not trying to run the guy out of town, but IMO the other big consideration is we have a big crop of small sized guys in the top-9 (Dube/Mang/Pelletier/Coronato/Coleman) and he would be the guy I'd be most comfortable trading just because of age and consistency. Of course Coleman would also be ideal but I get the feeling the Flames love him and will want him to stay even through the retool and play with Backlund until their contracts are up.

Dallas seems like such a natural fit (for all of Coleman, Dallas, and the Flames) - they could use a speedy, middle 6 play driver that's strong defensively.

Flames would likely have to take back Radek Faksa, but if they would give up some good pieces I'd be all for it.

Though in his latest pod he seems to think Detroit is the front runner.

I would trade Coleman for Joe McDonnell who's their director of amateur scouting. That organization continues to find players in the drat and they may be the first team to go seamlessly from old core to young core without a rebuild.

Outside of that incredible Heiskenan/Robertson/Oettinger year, who do they have lately (I'm not much of a draft/prospect follower). Johnston?

As I said before I am absolutely fine with Dube at $2.3M because that is fair value, my issue is when he is going to want a pay raise coming up as a free agent. Anything over $3M AAV and I would rather they moved on.

And based on The Athletic rankings a week ago the Flames drafting is right up there with them.

Flames biggest problem is we haven't had enough picks and traded too many away.

(Also that our best players left instead of sticking around which made things tougher too. We'd probably be talking differently of the Flames if Tkachuk/Gaudreau were still around and we were graduating guys like Pelletier, Coronato, Zary, and Pospisil to come play with them).

Yes, his next contract is going to be interesting. But he is an RFA and he is currently on pace for 29 points, so he isn't going to get a big raise. Two years at $3M-ish is probably the ballpark

It’d be great if Dube went the Järnkrok route and prioritized term over dollar value. He’s a good player, home grown talent, and can fill-in throughout the lineup. He’s worth keeping around, but will absolutely price himself off the Flames and eventually out of the league if he wants much more than he’s getting.

You’d love him for 2-2.5 on a six year deal. $3M+ and you’re at the point where you might as well just fill his spot with an ELC and save a couple million.

Dallas also has Mavrik Bourque, Logan Stankoven, and Jacob Pettersen.

Their drafting looks good, but over the same timeframe (since the Hintz draft), the Flames drafted Andersson, Kylington, Mangiapane, Fox, Dube, Tkachuk, Ruzicka, Valimaki, Coronato, Zary, and Pelletier.

Dallas can keep Joe McConnell. Tod Button has done a great job with amateur scouting for the Flames and is not an issue for this franchise.

Stankoven and Bourque will be fixtures in a middle six shortly. Although Dallas has not had much success with D lately.

Harley looks good.
Honka was a whiff for a pretty high pick.

What is Conroy waiting for with Vladar? I'd rather have Oscar Dansk in there as backup. Get what you can for him and be done with it.

Hintz with a late 2nd (49 OA).

Johnston at #23 OA, Stankoven at #27 and Harley at #18 are looking pretty good.
