Watching Palin get increasingly frustrated at someone he respected being so utterly disrespectful and dismissive was a little bit heartbreaking. Meanwhile, Cleese just pokes right back.

The one thing I hated/loved about this movie is that there was no real kumbaya ending. The topic didn't deserve one. It was clever in that, yes, there was the 'bad guy' who gets his comeuppance in the traditional sense but it's so incredibly unsettling. The last couple sentences in the dialogue by Hannibal Lecter's doctor really hits the point home for me:

It was okay. Kind of? Its like the set designer was the only one who GAF about this movie.

The acting...wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, it was just kind of there.

The story? Just...kind of there. It is, by all accounts a film that was made and it exists but I dont think I've been that bored by a movie since Eternals.
You could tell from the trailer that this movie only exists because of corporate calculus.

They keep trying to make FF work and it never does, because it's an extremely dated franchise. You can't even really update it, because unlike with most other superhero groups, the makeup of this group is pretty close to being written in stone for all time.

Paul Thomas Anderson is one of my favorite directors but the "Battle" trailers don't have be excited in the least, the advance reviews are very good so chances are that I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Any one catching this today?

I went and saw it and I guess my response is "everything in this seems really well done I should probably really like this" combined with "I don't get it".

Sean Penn tho deserves an award for that movie.

Saw it today. I ####ing loved it. Incredibly well executed from a technical standpoint. Performances are really strong from everyone. I particularly liked Leo and Penn.

To me, it's part allegory of the current state of the U.S., and in this story there are no real heroes, just different levels of villain. Like the protagonists aren't really great people, but they're less villainous than Penn's character and his ilk, who are less villainous than the other group that I will not name for fear of spoilers.

Really intense almost the whole way through. P.T. Anderson has become exceptional at building tension through film craft. I wouldn't even say there's a ton of action in this movie, but it feels like there's a lot more because of how he makes each scene.

Well worth the watch. 9/10.

I watched this yesterday with my sister's boyfriend (who is an EMT) and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Would recommend!

Dark humour (which is my bag) but hitting a little close to home.

Saw ‘Battle’ today. Weird title since I keep forgetting what it is. Absolutely not what I was suspecting. For some reason thought it was one of those Guy Richie type movies where a drug deal goes wrong and he spends the rest of it escaping and making things right, hijinx happens and car chases but no, it is absolutely nothing like that at all.

Very odd but frenetic movie, you couldn’t really spoiler it if you tried because it wouldn’t make sense.

Sean Penn definitely getting nominations, god he plays nuts well and differently, semen demon.

It’s long as fata though. Not a typical Hollywood movie. I could totally see someone not liking it, but I loved it.

The music is stellar. During I was thinking, this has to be Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead guitarist). Yup, just looked, it is. Much like There Will be Blood.

Yeah, One Battle After Another was really well done.

A lot of tense moments interspersed with some great "wtf" dialogue and physical comedy.

Penn in particular left an impression lol.

Thankfully it was a LOT more interesting than the trailers made it out to be.

There are some scary parallels with what's going on in America right now.. almost felt like a glimpse into the future there. Not all that far-fetched.

9/10

Not sure if what thread and probably a spoiler but it’s been a while, I think in Se7en the brad Pitt character should have killed himself in the end and would have thwarted the plan.

Se7en is my favourite film of all time and I'm really glad they didn't go that route.

It’s a dark and nihilistic film. The ending had to be just as bleak for it to truly land.

Audiences didn't know what to do with A Knight's Tale in the early 2000s.

Two parts historical fiction, one part drama, one part action. Fold in some romcom, a pinch of sports, and sprinkle with flowery, almost Shakespearean dialogue. Wrap it all in a contemporary rock soundtrack -- boom, you’ve got a movie that on paper makes no sense, yet ends up absolutely delicious.

It's a pretty solid 4.5/5. However, teenage me would've likely given it a 2.

Anything with Shannon Sossamon gets at least a 4.5 in my books.

Naw. That wouldn't have fit with Pitt's character. The scene with rage building and Morgan Freeman trying to stop the inevitable while Spacey's, absolutely awful, genius plays out is amazing.

As Esoteric said, the nihilistic ending with Freeman narrating over the end is perfect.

I thought weapons was fine. I liked the structure of the storytelling but ultimately it felt like another paint by numbers horror movie towards the end.

Above average but not groundbreaking. 7/10. Maybe a 7.5.
