Sucks for Harper, this was basically "the time" wasn't it?

Sucks for Liberals I would say.
He gained seats, has them close to a majority, and has proven he is not "the devil" he has been characterized as.

The hardcore conservative James Ford is still leading CPC Tim Uppal in Edm-Sherwood Park. Crazy. Apparently he has quite the following. I've never heard of him, although I did get something in the mailbox about him.

I guess, but are the Cons going to be able to make more gains with a minority government? Libs come back with a better(?) leader and those voters who stayed away from the Libs due to Dion and the general lameness of the Liberals come flocking back.
I guess we'll see, the worst part is another election sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure, I hadn't heard. I only recently moved into the riding, so I haven't followed Uppal in the past.

The Cons blew thier chance. Next time around the Libs will have a new leader making it even tougher for Harper.

The real problem for the Libs is more systemic, the inability to win seats in the Prairies will always hurt them. Any new leader will have to try to address this, cause it will only take time to change.

My last count showed their max as being 158, as the numbers shown only had 293 seats at the time.
I'd love to see them crack that ceiling.

Blew their chance?
they made GAINS.
they govern even decently from here on out....they own the next election...they don't, and the Libs MAY get a minority.
Not sure why there is so much spin going on here....it is what it is. A good night for the CPC and a bad night for everyone else.

The thing is that the place the Cons were supposed to gain support was in Quebec against the Bloc. They didn't do that, but the silver lining is that the left is further fractured as the NDP have made big gains on the Liberals.
Now, we're going to see a bit of extra pandering to Quebec and to the Maritimes and next time around, maybe that'll be the bit that pushes them over the hump.
Surprisingly, the Liberals actually gained a couple of seats in Quebec, but that's not a big deal since the Bloc only gained one seat as well, while the Cons lost two and the other one was (I don't know) independent?
So the landscape in Quebec is virtually unchanged. Still prime territory for both the Cons and the Libs. Whichever party does better in the next couple years in Quebec will gain the most in the next election.

Interesting to note, that this James Ford has said he wants the CPC to sweeten the deal, and he would have crossed the floor.

Why is Bob Rae all of a sudden popping up on the broadcasts? I really hope the Libs don't start to implode.

Micheal Ignatieff and Stephen Harper is going to be a good race. Two guys that actually have some vision and two guys that would not embaress our country on the international stage.

That would mean a there would be no reason to vote Liberal. Now it's Ignatieff and Rae on CTV. Whatever!

Not spin (at least not for me), it just always feel like Liberal is the "default" position of Canadian politics and the Conservatives have to push uphill just to break even.
Like I said I'd like to see a Conservative majority under Harper just to see what they could and would do.
