The interesting thing is that it appears that all of the soundbites from the federal leaders in that short clip have come to pass in some way or another:
-Mulroney discussing new wealth creation is spot on, a big reason why the Trump tariffs are so threatening to the economy is that they would undo some of that very wealth created through free trade. Since that agreement Canada became a 'trading' nation not just with the US but with the entire world.
-Turner mused that this could threaten the whole underpinning of the country. Clearly growing more reliant and building an export to the US economy has created the vulnerability where the US can threaten the economic viability of Canada itself.
- Ed Broadbent highlighted how the agreement would remove a lot of the power away domestically. Very true, we're only here talking about this because of who got elected in Washington in November without a change in Ottawa.

Doctorfever only buys Turkish Tylenol. Hence why he is always feverish.

I’m unaware of liquid steel unless it’s melted.

Because the tariff is on all countries, there will continue being a demand for Canadian aluminum & steel because it'll still be cheaper.
In the meantime American buyers are going to pass on their costs, as well American producers.
Trump proves yet again he has no clue what he's doing.
Another fantastic outcome for the 'Trump will never be POTUS again' gang.

lol, Trump should have an economist he’d actually listen to. I’m no economist (and don’t play one on television) but even I know that’s lousy economic policy.

We should put a 50% Tariff on American Cheese.
Then most of the American Mid-West would revolt, we drop the tariff, they join us, and we'd have some real fun on our hands!
Forget this 51st state nonsense....we're looking for the 11th Province!
No one would see it coming.

Pretty sure we put a 400% tariff on American cheese to protect our dairy industry and make sure Canadians pay more than anyone else for cheese.

I thought about this last weekend when the tariffs were coming in. At that time, Canada was more of a branch-plant economy, and as a result of the original FTA, many jobs were lost in the manufacturing sector. That ship has sailed, but Canada has established more trade over the past ~30 years in general. I hope that the push is on to get a free trade agreement with the UK and Europe and to explore other markets in general for our products.
I realize that we can't just solve this overnight, but there are other avenues for these goods and we need to diversify our trade.

I was going to say; don't we basically just not import American dairy products at all? In part because US cheese etc doesn't necessarily meet Canadian food regulatory standards, is my understanding.

Is American cheese even considered a true dairy product? Like cheese slices, Velveeta, and Cheez-whiz?

Those are simply 'cheese-like' edible products.

I work in the Steel business. Looks like I get to die in the unemployment tariff firing squad first. Awesome.

On the one hand, you argue(some might say strongly) for Canadian industry and taking care of ourselves, and on the other you can't wait to throw our own industry under the bus so you can have cheaper cheese. How do you square that?

I don't blame you for being anxious and I hope it works out for you.
I would not be surprised though if Trump changes his mind again once counter tariffs are applied, just like he did last time.
