I liked what I saw with Chanda. Also, Kamdem is coming along nicely. Gaff on the valour goals, but he has physical power, glad to see him pushing things around in the set piece attempts inside the box even as an RB.

Fun time doing the Ship bus yesterday. Good crowd for the Friday of a long weekend. Wild 15 minutes in the middle of that second half and ultimately two points dropped.

Loved seeing the Gaudreau Flames jerseys in the crowd.

Mael Henry is out for the season. Huge blow.

I heard he was on the cusp of a move to Europe. So devastating for him.

That sucks so much for him and the team. His energy and ability to make things happen and create chances was adding a great element to the attack

Damn, Henry was quickly becoming one of my favorites. It always seems to work that way with the Cavs, a mid/forward has traction and then poof - gone for a long time.

Such a shame about Henry, though I'm not surprised. That looked awkward and painful, and his reaction suggested that he knew his season was over. I hope that his recovery is full and fast.

Cavalry have a pretty important stretch of three games, playing Forge, Ottawa, and York.
Depending on results we would come away top of the table.

I'm going to the York game! Pretty sure I'll be the only Cavs fan. Look for the lone red blip in a sea of green and white.

I'd put money on Fraser Aird's family being there. His mom is super nice.

YYC Soccer podcast say Warschewski is close to returning. May be ready for this weekend but may not.

Today's article in the Herald had Shaw out 2-3 weeks, Warschewski and Trafford still 1-2 weeks out. I guess the club is going full speed ahead with the World Cup training pitch though....
Quote:
The most notable of possible upgrades needed to satisfy FIFA’s criteria is the inclusion of a sub-surface irrigation system under ATCO Field.
“We don’t have sub-surface irrigation, and that’s kind of a requirement,” Allison said. “And we’ve done that by choice. Because of the horse sports, we’ve always had perimeter irrigation so there’s no sprinkler heads out on the pitch. We find that to be for the safety of the athlete, whether they are equine or homosapien.
“But evidently, it’s a thing, because a World Cup coach could say, ‘I want this five metre-by-five metre patch of grass sprinkled with water right now.’ And FIFA doesn’t feel you can do that with the water trucks and other technology we have here now.”
|
Have to laugh at this quote. Yes, Ian, subsurface irrigation is a thing in soccer. I've got no issues with Spruce Meadows bidding for this if it does nothing more than help Spruce Meadows understand soccer better. They are world class at equestrian but they have a tonne to learn about soccer...still....

That quote is freakin hilarious.
Get some sub-surface heating in there while you’re at it.
It is a really neat spot for a World Cup team to set up camp for a while. It’s private, all the catering/fields that could asked for. Wonder if the locker room setup becomes a little more permanent then too

We will see. They'll be what, 4 or 5 teams besides Canada playing group games in Vancouver and potentially Seattle, that make sense due to proximity to be an hour plane ride away.
Probably not worth any other than one of those teams than those to come here, though the training at altitude is a thing. But Denver exists as well and I am sure that a bunch of teams will have camp in Lower Mainland, even Kamloops/Kelowna.
It's something Spruce Meadows wouldn't clearly spend to put in for any other reason than hosting a WC team for 3 weeks, so that would have to be a guarantee to get a team for them to do it. It would be neat I guess to have some random WC team here...maybe? I'm sure the team would rent out that luxury hotel (Azuridge) just west of there too so it really would be a decent spot.

They're building a hotel on the grounds which is supposed to open next year. No idea if it's started construction or what.
