Weegar kicks ass. He's gonna be so much fun to watch.
I would immediately try to offer him $5.5-6 million on a long-term extension ... think it could almost immediately be a huge bargain.

can anyone honestly say they would have been happier with a 10.5x8 for Tkachuk than this deal?
I take this deal 10 times out of 10

It's a trade for expiring contracts. Matthew Tkachuk for two very good players who will leave in a year, a 1st round pick, and a prospect. Evaluate the signings on their own.

At the very least, if they aren't signed by the deadline, trade both of them for a huge haul. Win-win.

for anyone complaining about his playoff stats 21 points in 26 games is better than Tkachuk not to mention
Lightning x 2 and Washington is a little stiffer competition than what we get around here

GOAT!

The acquisition of Huberdeau, who had an NHL career high in points last season and was the League leader in assists (85), offsets Calgary's loss of elite left wing Johnny Gaudreau (signed with Columbus Blue Jackets) in free agency from earlier this offseason. While Calgary has now lost two key pieces of its top line and first power play from last season in Gaudreau and Tkachuk, Huberdeau was tied for third in the NHL in power play points (38) last season and has more points (415 in 368 games since 2017-18) than Gaudreau (405 in 370) over the past five seasons combined.

Quote:
Over the past two seasons combined, Weegar ranked third in the NHL in plus/minus (plus-69) and tied for fifth among defensemen in even-strength points (70). Weegar was also tied for 11th among defensemen in shots on goal (203) last season and averaged more than two hits per game (179 in 80 games).

I think Huberdeau signs soon...maybe the deal was just too good to pass on but I can't imagine Brad not at least talking to the player first
Seemed like Mangiapane's agent knew that a massive player was coming to Calgary before any of this broke

Just an unbelievable trade. Still can't believe it. Add two studs, a decent prospect and a 1st. I wouldn't have dreamed this up with my homer glasses on. So excited. Can't wait to see who else Gandalf adds!

I wouldn't be surprised if Murray and Tre end up taking the exact same 8x10.5 offer to Huberdeau's camp.

Smashed it to boot. Interestingly enough, two other players also broke this record last year…with one obvious notable.
Jonathan Huberdeau (2021-22): 85
Johnny Gaudreau (2021-22): 75
Artemi Panarin (2021-22): 74
Joe Juneau (1992-93): 70
Kevin Stevens (1991-92): 69

In honour of the thread where it was announced that Tkachuk wasn't going to sign...
Looks like we got that king's ransom.

Huberdeau’s agent is Allan Walsh, so it could be a tough negotiation…? I can’t tell you if Walsh has Tweeted any update because he blocked me during the Michael Frolik saga.
