Very easily, actually. Take back Hall and Carlo, sign Kadri with all your space.

But what does that do for your future? You'll have none.

They need to resist immediate/cheap gratification here and focus on building a monster for 3-5 seasons from now.

I know every single long time fan in this city would thank them for it.
Not gonna happen. So embrace the attempt at building a contender.

It's no wonder the Flames always choked the big games...get players that would rather die than lose please

Didn’t know he was close with the Hughes boys but I think the fact “it’s an American team” is pretty weak reasoning otherwise if that’s it- it sounds like there are 25 cities to choose from including places like Arizona, so doubt that’s the only qualifier.

He’s effectively an unrestricted free agent at this point because for anything of value to come back it has to be a place he wants to be. That’s my main point and I don’t know if the Devils do that for him.

Seeing Johnny and Tkachuk potentially both go to and extend with basement dwellers just affirms to me that while I'm sure they enjoyed the playoffs, they were never risking their necks to win and probably were never that disappointed outside of missing on individual points/goal markers.

It's a sad revelation but at least we can clear out the rot around the foundation now.

Precisely. A rebuild doesn't need to be as scorched earth as many loathe it to be if you get trades like this right.

I for one am excited to get some blue-chip talent for Tkachuk and infuse that into our prospect pipeline, be it through the draft capital or prospects.

And if reports are true that Tkachuk has given "a list" of teams that he is willing to sign a long term deal with (presumably all are in the US), it's not a Calgary issue but a Canada issue.

We just happened to bear the brunt of it having our two highest scoring players be born in the US and also needing new contracts this summer.

Better than 8x10.5 for each

Gaudreau was a kick in the dick
Everyone is moping about the Tkachuk now but I am happy about it lol. Selling HIGH

Yep this is how I see it. Losing Gaudreau only hurts because we got nothing back.

Whatever we get for Tkachuk plus 10 million in cap space is enough to replace him imo

Kyrou plus, and add someone who can distribute the puck. If Blues don't want that deal, find another trading partner.

I love that Tkachuk has created envy in other hockey markets all around the league just cause of his pest reputation and we're going to be selling him at his highest ever value.

Fans should be pissed about Johnny, but very happy about this.

Without John he's a 7M player that will be paid north of 10 and and Flames will save that space and get future assets.

NJ's also in a good position with Tkachuk because their best players are locked in at under $10 mil aav, which means that Tkachuk at $10 mil wouldn't kill their chances at contention the same way that he would elsewhere

Yeah, not sure if they want to give up Bratt but they are having their own issues with him.

These NJ deals seem lop sided or more like "full value" for Tkachuk which I have a hard time seeing. Put Hanifin in and theres the base of our rebuild
Bratt, Holtz, Mercer, Nemec, 1st / 4 of 5 of these plus a cap dump
For
Hanifin and Tkachuk
