Add another $100 from me.
I was coaching at a football insertion camp last weekend and had a couple kids down from Fort Mac. Great kids and nice families, made the long trip down to Lacombe just for football. Just yesterday I got a message from one of the kids saying his house had burned down and that he unfortunately would not be able to play at the Border Bowl (basically a scouting game for college coaches to watch) against BC in a couple of weeks as his family was headed back to Nova Scotia and didn't know when they were going to be able to return back to Fort McMurray.
I can't even imagine having to change your life like that so quickly like that family had to. And I definitely can't imagine what those of you who have family and friends there are going through as I was heartbroken for this kid I only got to know over a weekend.
Best wishes to those from Fort McMurray and area, and to those who have acquaintances there too. Stay strong!

I thought both the Feds and Province will match. Wouldn't that be an additional 3x with whatever the individual companies match for?

My staff are so caring.
We had a couple from Fort McMurray come in this morning needing refills on their medication. The gentleman and his wife had planned on coming here to visit his sister, but sadly she passed away so the visit became to go to her funeral. As if that wasn't enough, the fire started shortly after they left and now they have nowhere to go. There's no room for them here unfortunately. Luckily, they had dropped their dog off at a kennel before they left and the dog is waiting for them in St Albert. They'll be OK as they've contacted their insurance for help now and they believe their house is still standing.
As the news spread through the store all the staff signed a sympathy card that read "Remember, all of Canada cares about you".

Some individuals are saying that only "individual" donations to Red Cross will be matched. Corporate donations being matched is the part I'm not sure about.
It does seem like the answer for corporate matching being matched would be a no though.

Well, he'll have his wife, his mom, his in-laws, his kids and their nannies with him, give 'em all hats and hoses and tell 'em to get to work!

The tally of donations just broke $25,000. Over $25,271 $27,671 has been individually (and in some cases company-matched,) by the users on this forum.
I'm going to continue including company-matches in the total, but since that's not really quantifiable with Federal and Provincial matches, I'll exclude those for now. Ballpark that total as being x 3 though.

My wife sells Younique makeup. For the next couple ple weeks she is donating all her commission to the Red Cross. If you are a female or have females in your life, please visit her website and buy some product. From the moment you hit the complete my purchase button, it takes three hours for the money to go through and seconds later she donates what she makes off it. This is not me trying to promote her business, I am trying to get her to donate as much as possible. Her webpage is www.sonjawillberg.com
If this is against policy feel free to delete and please PM me a way to do this properly.

Yeah I got that at first. I clicked it again and it went through fine. Just bogged down with donations I assumed.

$1000 here and my employer is matching.
Fort McMurray will always be my hometown and gave my family of life of stability and happiness.
My parents were able to retire comfortably in their 50s, they can see their grandkids any time they want. They moved there with nothing in the mid 1970s.
Working as a coop student for 1 year at Syncrude on an extremely generous salary allowed me to save up for a down payment on a house in Calgary (2000) after finishing school.
I made friends that I still talk with on a daily basis, many great memories fishing and golfing with them.
