MADRID — Novak Djokovic has criticized Bernard Tomic for giving up on match point in a loss at the Madrid Open this week, saying the young Australian player is lacking commitment to the sport.
Tomic turned his racket around when facing three match points against Fabio Fognini in a first-round match on Tuesday. With the handle facing forward, he only watched as the ball bounced for an ace.
Tomic later reportedly told an Australian newspaper he didn't care because at 23 he was already worth $10 million.

Milos played very well today, but lost 6-3 6-4 to Joker. Frustrating that he couldn't convert a couple of break-points in that second set, it might have gone to a tie-breaker and who knows maybe even a third set.

At 23, he has a lot of time to blow through 10 million. Especially if that 10 million is in Australian dollars.
Can't wait to watch him crash him burn. Couldn't happen to a more deserving individual. That comment alone will probably dry up a lot of potential endorsement offers. Prize money for bombing out of every tournament early isn't that great buddy. You'll be a pleb like the rest of us soon enough.

Auger Alliassime lost to the #1 seed in the final today.
Still a great tournament and some important points that pushes his ranking to around 600.

Milos won his opening round match in Rome today (6-4 4-6 6-4) over Marco Cecchinato of Italy. Next up, Nick Kyrgios (pretty tough 2nd round match).

ROME (AP) Bernard Tomic retired from his first-round match at the Italian Open against Benoit Paire after less than 10 minutes Sunday due to sickness.
Paire was ahead 2-1 in the first set when Tomic ended it.
''I was feeling bad all night,'' Tomic said. ''I couldn't play with the heat. I felt so, so bad and I felt like I was going to collapse. It was the best thing for me to do to retire. ... The main thing is to get it out of my system.''

Up next for Genie is Kerber who can be up-and-down (when she's on her game she can beat anyone, but she's just as likely to toss in a clunker).

6-1, 5-7, 7-5. Well done. She clearly showed some resiliency in that third set to close it out.

First top 10 win since 2014. She was in total control up 6-1, 3-0 but good fight after letting Kerber back into it. Hopefully the draw Gods are kind to her at the French because she's playing well right now and could use a 4th round or QF win to bump her ranking up.

Milos and Kyrgios match got underway only to be suspended by rain. Kyrgios broke Milos and then Milos broke right back before the match was halted on serve at 2-2 in the first set.
