Yeah, I'm not surprised he said it though. He and Rex were in the Ravens organization together for a decade and won a title together. Ryan's been known to be the kind of guy brash defensive players love and want to run through a wall for. It especially seems like the more extroverted types that played for him - like Lewis - love Ryan and his brashness the most.
Obviously a very biased statement from him, and one no unbiased football fan would agree with. But given their history, I'm not surprised Lewis said it and truly means it.

I'm fairly certain that Lewis has never picked the Pats to win in the pre game predications, regardless of how obvious it has been. He needs to get over himself if he wants to be a legitimate NFL commentator.

Almost planned a trip to Denver to see Brady vs Manning this Sunday. Now with Manning not playing, my wallet's safe.

I thought he picked the Bills cause he's 3-7.

Dude, you're being incredibly ignorant. This isn't an "Oh I need my coffee" in the morning. It's serious addiction, and it's a disease. That's like telling someone with cancer "Well I mean we're all a little under the weather this time of year." Are you also one of those types that think people with severe depression just "need to cheer up and stop being sad?" The guy has a medical condition. He went to rehab and he relapsed. It's a pretty common thing that happens to alcoholics. I hope he goes and gets more help and gets himself back into recovery, but mocking him for relapsing is an incredibly ugly thing to do.

I didn't mean to mock him. But he also needs to take responsibility for himself. I understand addiction. I've dealt with it. You need to remove yourself from places where it becomes a danger. Manage it. I wish him all the luck in the world.

Not the same, no one asks for cancer or depression. No one forced this guy to drink.
At some point people have to be responsible for their own actions, everything is explainable.

I don't think that will be an issue. It may not be the 42-35 shootout you may have expected. But I think it will be a pretty tough hard fought game between what are two of the top 5 defences in the league this season. With the current run of injuries that New England is dealing with, I think this will be a pretty close game and that one team not being competitive will be an issue.

I don't really have an allegiance to either team so I'm cheering for a good game. Buddy I'm going with is a Pats fan. I've been looking forward to watching Brady vs the Broncos secondary for months, I was more excited for that than Brady vs Manning.

Really? What about smokers?

That's just an incredibly simplistic point of view. Some people are genetically predisposed to addiction without knowing it. Some people are more likely to become addicted to substances because of underlying mental health issues. The stigma and ignorance surrounding mental illness is rearing its ugly head again.

He probably needs to quit football if he's ever going to be able to remove himself from those situations. I can't speak to your addiction, but I'm sure you're aware that it doesn't afflict everyone in the same manner, nor are people gifted with equal abilities for fighting it. I think it's one thing to say it's handling it wrong, and another to say that he's an idiot or to mock him for his issues.

Honestly quitting football would easily be the worst thing he could do to stay on the straight and narrow. He's rich no matter what, so football at least is something that has the potential to keep him focused. Once he's done with football he's likely going back to Texas to be rich and party with the A&M co-eds.

Maybe, but I imagine the grind of the NFL and the travelling that goes with it aren't beneficial for an addict.

Mike Pettine won't cut Johnny Manziel: 'It's not a dead end; it's a hurdle'
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...rt_river_index
* He said the biggest issues were trust and accountability: "He violated that trust.''
* He said Manziel knew that he was on a zero tolerance policy for the bye weekend: "I think that was made reasonably clear to him.''
* He stressed "there's no personal rift between he and I. Nobody will be more proud when he does turn the corner than me.''
*He said Manziel has "made vast improvements'' on the football field but "has a ways to go in other aspects.''

Johnny Manziel will always be an NFL circus show. Maybe he's talented enough and will hard enough to be an average starting QB for a few years but that's a stretch. Even that no linesmen will lay down their body for Manziel.

Substance abuse isn't a mental illness. It's a vice and a crutch. He needs help, but I don't feel sorry for him. Pre-disposition doesn't mean it's a guarantee.
I have less sympathy for smokers who get lung cancer, now anyway since they know the risks involved.
