I thought Prentice was one of the prime candidates to suceed Harper (sorry Queen Redford). Being the premier of AB is no mean feat but I would think 24 Sussex Drive holds greater allure.

What makes you say that? My impression of Prentice was that he was one of a relatively few number of Red Tories in Harper's cabinet.

My guess is politically the CPC will be looking for a leader from somewhere other than Calgary to show they are a national party - unfortunately it's not always about the best candidate. Or maybe he figures the provincial party can be saved while nothing can be done about the federal party until after the next election.

I always thought Prentice was a staunch fiscal conservative... but now that I review I'm not sure why I have that perception.
Definitely know he was considered left leaning socially in the Fed Cons.

CTV News has confirmed that Prentice will be running for PC leadership in Alberta. This will be interesting.
Personally, I like Prentice but I've given up on the PC party. Wildrose is going to have to step up their game if they have to go up against Prentice.

According to his Wikipedia bio (consider the source) Prentice is a self-described Red Tory.

Prentice is a charismatic veteran politian. I've said the WR shouldn't have beat up Redford too hard and now the nightmare is real for WR.

Redford was beat up as much by her own party as she was any external source.
Prentice is just about the only guy with the kind of recognition that could give Wildrose trouble on name alone, so good choice for the PCs.
That being said...

Now she's really going to go into hiding, its such a shocker that she pulled an election promise out of her butt and its failed.
She's going into history as the worst politician ever.

He crippled an industry and a province trying to play tough. Redford just used the taxpayers as her frequent flyer program. The bad budgets and broken promises are on the voters. We knew this would be the result. It was clear that the things they promised were impossible to deliver but we as a collective still voted them over the alternative which was the unknown.

Ms. Redford better stay away from greyhound cause she's gonna be under a bus real soon...
Shouldn't be an issue though as she only flies private first class.

Redford used our money to fullfil her political dreams. Anyone can build schools and hospital without regard to the costs. That's what she did. How you balance difference priorities and budget is the key of which she had no knowledge of.
When in doubt, she just split the books into multiple volumes to fool us and went on her nilly willy spending way.

At least Ed was honest, he made a huge mistake and he paid.
Alison showed a lot of contempt for the people that she served, her platform turned out to be full of lies, and she actually had the books split to hide her dishonest form of government.
She's worse then Ed.

I don't even like it but that cartoon is nothing but wisful thinking and rose colored glasses. Kinda wish the PCs were drowning, but their not.
This strengthens the PC brand after turmoil. It ain't sinking.
Wildrose will never get more than the grumpy old man vote.

Well, you're deluding yourself if you think that a third of the voting population (Wildrose's total in the last election) is exclusively "grumpy old men". And obviously a long way to go, but the most recent poll had Wildrose holding a 29 point lead.
But Jim Prentice is certainly the kind of potential leader who could take that deficit back.

They had a lead 48 hours before last election too.
But yeah, I'm deluding myself.

Public sentiment is a hard thing to predict. I think last time people voted for the PC brand and not for Redford herself. This time people will vote for Prentice.
And last time people feared, rationally or not, the WR party. They won't be fearing the WR party as much this time.
What's important is for Prentice to distant himself from the last two PC regimes. I think he'll be smart enough to do so.
The biggest question in two years will be do people just want to change out ruling party for the sake of changing itself. If that sentiment is strong enough, I don't think Prentice can revert it.
But if Albertans are just happy enough to keep continuing our jolly way, the WR cannot and will not win.
