I'd like Genie to star in my Big Bang Theory ... heyooooooo
I do find the Jim Parsons thing hilarious though. At first it was "oh, Sheldon is at Wimbledon." ... then it was like "Oh, Sheldon is ... following Genie Bouchard around? "

Wow! I can't believe a Canadian is in the finals of a slam and another might be joining her soon!
Either way Fed or Roanic making the finals will be awesome.

Genie is now the highest ranked Canadian singles player ever (men's or women's) at #7, will move up to #6 if she wins Saturday.

The women's final will be on Saturday at 2:00 pm local time. That doesn't clash with the word cup so you should be able to watch it at any pub (that has TVs). If you want to watch it with fellow Canadians there may be a good crowd at the Maple Leaf Pub by Leicester Square. This is not a great pub, but it should have some good Canadian support. Let me know if you need a recommendation for a nice pub, I may be able to help you.

She's also pretty much wrapped up a repeat win of the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award for this year too. There's no other female athlete in this country even close to Genie right now. Probably the Lou Marsh Trophy favourite as well, and the year's only half over!

ESPN was already talking about "North American tennis" by the quarterfinals.

We should all be grateful Serena was drunk or melted down or whatever, because if the Williams sisters made the doubles Final you can bet where ESPN would have their focus right now. Been loving watching the BBC feeds though.

Navratolova called this a year ago. She was the first to claim Bouchard will be a Grand Slam winner at some point in the future.
Chris Evert was more reserved until today when she said Bouchard is the favorite, and she is also quick to acknowledge that Genie is her own person and not wanting to be Sharapova lite.
I think the American media is going to really warm up to Genie.

The scariest thing right now is Genie's into the final without losing a set, yet any of us who've watched her for a while know she hasn't even been close to her best, spraying way too many errors and the backhand is a bit loose. If she was on her best game right now she would have massacred the field.

I heard John McEnroe say this morning that Bouchard was his prediction since before the tournament. I would say he's convinced.

The ESPN analysts said that she'd be a top 5 player if she wins on Saturday. Were they wrong?

What a great convincing win. She beat Halep, who while not at her best is a tough competitor. I think she has it over Kvitova, but the deciding factor will be mental toughness where Kvitova has the edge, who has won this trophy before and is just generally more experienced.

That is the highest she could have reached, but Kvitova also reaching the final means sixth is now the best Genie can do.
The points right now:
1. S. Williams 9510
2. Na 6960
3. Halep 6785
4. Kvitova 5370
5. Radwanska 5330
6. Sharapova 4881
7. Bouchard 4460
8. Kerber 4365
Kvitova or Bouchard will score another 700 points by winning the final. That would move Genie past Sharapova.

She could have become top 5, but Kvitova won today so that means best Genie can move up to is #6 (behind Radwanska). Kvitova is #4 regardless what happens. Genie will be ahead of Sharapova though.

It was a winter olympic year.. were there any exceptional performances in Sochi?
It looks like Raonic chasing Bouchard for the Lou Marsh.

Forget Canada, at this point Genie has a pretty good argument for AP Female Athlete of the Year if she wins Saturday. I think it's not a strecth to see another semi in New York, so four semis and a win would be a mighty impressive resume.
