All the Western teams that signed long term deals with Rogers prior to this are likely very sad right now.

According to Garrioch Sens/Bell deal is worth about $400 million for the 12 years.

Pretty big deal.

Wow. That's big money. Weren't they only getting $7M/year now? Thats over 5-fold increase.

Do we know how much the Flames get from RSN?

So $33.3 million a year to broadcast at least 52 regular season and preseason games. Hockey has come a long way financially since the 2004 lockout.

Which is why I don't know how people can say Bettman isn't a good commissioner. But then again, he's not making them (fans) rich, so why should they care.

When people look back on Bettman's tenure (Reign?) they'll realize that he'll be remembered as one of the premier Commissioners in the history of professional sports.

He has grown hockey exponentially.

Worth 1/13th what the national league-wide deal is worth?

That doesn't sound right

Seems right when RDS is reportedly paying $68 million/year for the Habs rights:

http://blogues.radio-canada.ca/blogu...-800-millions/

The potential is there for the Leafs to get close to $100million/year next season when their regional rights are up for grabs.

Skewed stats. RDS is the only French-speaking broadcaster and the Habs have the only French-demanding audience.

But Ottawa is the size of Calgary.

And the Sens have to compete with the Habs and the Leafs for fan support

Their broadcast region is huge though: Northern and Eastern Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada and Newfoundland.

I believe it's $17 million but I can't confirm that with a link.

The Senators have a french demanding audience, much smaller than the Habs. Some of the Senators games are on TVA Sports.

IMO that was a terrible decision by the Flames and Oilers to sign a 10 year agreement. They must have known that NHL TV rights were on the upswing and I'm not sure why you would lock in to a term past the recent expiry of national rights. Looks like they both screwed themselves out of a bidding war between Rogers and Bell seeing how Bell would have been willing to ante up $$$ to get their foot in the door out West after losing national rights.

Without the Senators games, this makes Sportsnet East kind of redundant.
