Not a totally crazy notion when you factor in how complete of a game this kid plays already, and still cranking out the points. I think he is a very special player at this stage.

If the Isles really like Ekblad or Reinhart, I see them as the major player in trading up.
Remember they offered their whole draft class in an attempt to draft Ryan Murray.
This time around they will also likely have the picks from trading Vanek and MacDonald.
Can the Flames beat that package?

Dal Colle strikes me as a top two-line forward or bust kind of player. He doesn't show much grit or two-way acumen. He's either going to be a productive NHL scorer, or he won't be in the league.

I believe we'll take the BPA at our position, which more than likely won't be Fleury. I see most of the WHL guys on a regular basis (season ticket holder / Moose Jaw) and have been impressed with Virtanen and Draisaitl. Fleury is a steady defender with good skating... Nothing flashly, top 4 upside. I think both Virtanen and Draisaitl could be impact players... Lots of offensive upside with good size.
We'll have to agree to disagree.

Not without stunting the rebuild. Next year is worth it, I just don't see how it's worth it this year.

With the draft year being '14, if we draft Fleury, the jersey presentation would be funny.

Random thought, where is Padakin ranked ? Was he not the one invited to prospect camp last Summer? I feel like he will be a Flame at some point after the first or second round.

Isles vs Flames for who can have another Reinhart to go with the one they each have.

I think if Burke really wants to go after Ekblad, he'll either trade away a few guys before games start back up in order for the Flames to "keep down" with the isles and oil or he'll get as many picks as possible in order to throw together a massive deal to the sabres for the #1 pick. Either way, I still think it's possible to get Ekblad!

Fleury is ranked from around 7-11 in all of these rankings.
I know nothing about him, but just by looking at these ranking he seems like a plausible pick at 5 or 6 or wherever we end up.
He fits a lot of "Burke characteristics" as well.

lol, the Flames have no chance. We're like the R&R of sucking for high picks. The Islanders are like an 18 year old Oban.

not ranked by central scouting. already has been passed over once as he was draft elgible last year
If the Flames really wanted to they could have signed him to an ELC as there is a loophole they can sign draft eligible players that attend their camp (like the Kings did with Martin Jones or the Canes did with Sergey Tolchinsky).
Doubt they use a pick on him now.

I wonder if any other team in the big NA professional leagues that have drafts, have ever gone more than 30 years without a top 5 pick.

The Rangers' streak is as long as ours.

If we acquire another first rounder at the deadline it should give Burke enough ammunition to present a great offer to move up.
CGY 1st + additional 1st + prospect/pick or two.
We can afford to move up without decimating our system. Given Burke's history I think he'll try to if we don't get a bottom 3 pick.
In a perfect world we'll just win the lottery

Ahh yes, they traded for that pick. I was mistakenly only taking into account bottom 5 finishes.

Although looking at that draft class you could have had 5 picks in the top ten and still walked away with garbage. Pretty awful draft for the Rangers that year considering they had two picks in the top ten.

dont be even slightly surprised when we trade baertschi + cgy 1st for 1st overall. We get Ekblad, CP implodes, and the world keeps turning.
