Yes I'm very late to the party but this 62 year old is excited to finding fun builds and searching for places to display them.

As you are getting into this, remember that Lego regularly retires sets. Might be worth a quick search to see if any that you might be interested in are about to disappear.

Just purchased AT-ET Walker… and just getting a promotion and pay raise, so I just might be able to sneak a reward to myself.
Thanks for the heads up McG but as Gandalf said to Frodo “Do not tempt me”
Damn this thread.

Congratulations!
We would all be building our own legos without Star Wars and Harry Potter.
Rivendell is the one that I’m looking at…so add LotR to that too!
I do like the 3D instructions that Lego seems to be going towards.
I’m blaming Covid for this myself. I didn’t really care about Lego until it became a family project during Covid. I’m not really complaining though; it’s genuinely appreciated time with my family.
Still…the cost…

Here we go again. I have a bad habit of buying a large lego build when my wife goes away. she is going away this weekend.
I wanted to try an off brand lego...so I'm going to try to build the FunWhole A-Frame. It has great ratings, and apparently is very close to the Lego clutch ability (ability to click together).
https://www.funwhole.com/products/a-...43845991858412
it's just over 2600 pieces and was on sale on amazon for $94...and that includes the lighting package. I'll put info here on how it goes.
It won't turn me away from official Lego...but I'm interested in seeing a different design/build philosophy.

Unrelated, I did a Lego work thing with Stacey Roy who was on LegoMasters. She's originally from Banff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stacey_Roy Interesting to hear about how they do the show. 14 hour days x 6 days a week. I asked what the brick count was for an average build. She said that no one was really counting...but that the Lego pit has 5,000,000 pieces in it and they often ran out of different colours or specialty shapes. She also said that their hands were a mess from the building, but the worst was the many collisions as people raced to get different pieces. She also said that the most difficult thing was in trying to communicate with your partner about ideas, but everyone was in close proximity so if you had a great idea, others would know what you were doing. She found that challenging. Anyways...I found it interesting!

I'm curious what you think. I've heard the company (which is apparently changing their name soon) recommends against starting from their older sets like the A-Frame as essentially "they have learned a lot since then". I've been thinking about getting one of their sets as they certainly are a more affordable option than Lego and I've heard the quality is quite high.

That’s a fun build. What’s cool is that there are 24 bags so it can be like an advent calendar in December.

Who has that kind of restraint building Lego. I open a kit and it's going to get done in one sitting no matter what.
