I actually enjoy Showgirls, I watch it every once in a while. It reminds me of something that has nothing to do with Vegas or stripping; maybe it’s the idea of having a dream and then realizing it’s a bunch of crap.
Dancing at the Blue Iguana is a look at the less glamorous version of stripper life. Great ensemble cast. And anything with Jennifer Tilly is cool with me.
It got pretty awful reviews. It’s based on an improvisational workshop the actors worked on; maybe it’s just not slick enough fhr some.

In retrospect Showgirls is such a strange movie. It is in no way realistic in the way it portrays Vegas, stripping, basic humanity, etc...It was definitely a product of the 90s.
What's baffling is that before Berkley took the role, it was floated around to a pretty long list of A-list celebrities. This insane script was somehow going to lead to an actual respected movie?
I guess it's like a female version of My Own Private Idaho or Midnight Cowboy, but it's also not as it doesn't make a shred of sense.
It was delightfully ridiculous, and it actually felt like a modern Troma film. They did a great job.
I dragged my best German buddy and his wife. No one else in the theatre.
He said it like a Mel Brooks movie. You as a German know Mel brooks? But he’s right. Absurd and awesome. Walking to phoenix comics tomorrow to see what they have.

That’s a good take on it. Perhaps I’ll rewatch the documentary; I think it’s called Call Me Nomi or something. Oh, it’s You Don’t Nomi, duh.
I didn’t find any of the dancing remotely erotic.
And I remember when those Versace dresses (and the cheap knockoffs that barely made it through the wash) were a thing up in da club. But I was more into grunge style.
Wind River. Watched it for like the 10th time yesterday. Easily one of my favorite movies of the last 10 years. I haven't got through it without sobbing yet.

One of my favourites of the last decade. Two years ago they started principle photography here in Calgary for a sequel but then it just stopped.
I wouldn't call Wind River a great film, but it addresses the issues it deals with very well. There are a couple of moments of dialogue in the movie that are just gut punches.
If you are someone with no connection to or appreciation for First Nations people it's probably not going to resonate

I went to see Weapons with Aeneas on Sunday. First time I’ve been to a movie theatre in over five years. It was a bit more supernatural thriller than I usually would watch, but overall the movie was good and I enjoyed it. 8/10.

F1 was good. I don’t give a rats ass about auto racing, but this lured me in big time. It’s definitely got the Bruckheimer cheese to it and the grossly obvious product placement and F1 marketing was lame. I can’t not like Brad Pitt. I want to buy a car racing game for the switch now.
I'm not into racing at all, but it was a mindless movie to watch to pass the time. I was getting tattooed and the tattoo artist put it on, so it was something to focus on without having to think. Although I could have done with some 'shake and bake' references in the movie...
Went to see Weapons cuz you guys said you loved it. Maybe I'm just old, maybe, but it failed to communicate with me. It was ok, I like the way they told the story, but overall it was just a 6/10.
