The Toffoli investment was fine didn't think a player who doesn't move needle much like Jarnkrok was needed with the price we paid.
Have to give credit to Brad for going for it but just didn't think he was a piece we needed at that price and he proved to be fairly useless especially how Sutter deployed him.

Perhaps but what teams are looking to add a D and do they have the 1st ++.
This is down right blasphemous but would you do Tanev to the Oilers for their 1st, 2nd, and Poolparty?

It was an overpay IMO. Nice player but you don’t need to win every bidding war.
Of course hard to be definitive about evaluating a deal when you don’t know what else is out there.

Tanev is exactly the type of player they need.
I feel dirty for suggesting it. Going to have to go have a shower now.

It was hypothetical. It it might make sense. The first is the baseline ask. Pulijarvi for salary and second is the Oiler tax.

flames need a D that can potentially be an offensive difference.
Tanev for something around Bouchard

As a rental Tanev that would be a good price but he still has one more year. Need a good prospect in the deal on top of that for the extra year. Not a premium guy but someone you’d expect to play games.

A 1st and a 2nd for Tanev?
Sometimes this place amazes me.

I think that will just result in the Flames making more bad trades. Until they committ to stockpiling picks in multiple consecutive drafts and using them, they'll continue to flounder. Teams know their own players very well and seldom make their best young players available.

Or Broberg or Halloway…..
To be clear though, I’m just hypothesizing. I doubt very much Treliving or Sutter would want to move Tanev.

The Jarnkrok deal made sense, though it was a bit of an overpay.
Calgary had a great team last year - before the playoffs, it looked like a team that had the potential for a deep run.
This year is the exact opposite imo; even it if did manage to get into the playoffs, no way they advance.

(Based on calgary not being willing to rebuild) Out of the expiring contracts hanifin is the one I would most likely keep. This team needs to get younger and hes the youngest if the bunch while playing a highly important role.
Zadorov, Tanev, toffoli, backlund, lindholm and hanifin is how I would rank who we should try and move.
Zadorov isn't apart of the core as your 5D. Tanev and backlund will be in their mid 30s and their value is peaked right now. Toffoli is going to be north of 30 and his value is peaked right now. Lindy is tough and I think you move him only if your prepared to take a step back for a couple years and your doing a major retool.

Anyone who forces the great Chris Tanev to wear that disgusting jersey gets hung by their balls outside the Saddledome and beaten to death.

One of the biggest issues with Jarnkrok was player deployment. He's had the most success playing as a winger ( Nash, Seattle, and Tor this year). Sutter kept forcing him to play 3C for the majority of the time here. 12G, 15A 27 points in Tor. Solid production for a guy making $2M.

Teams typically aren’t looking for players with term at the deadline. Players with term tend not to get the best returns right now. The rental option for the Flames as sellers are just not great right now.

Not too sure what you’re getting at.
Hamilton was dealt to the Flames for a mid-first and two seconds. He was 23, I believe, and under team control.
Tanev is 33 with one more year at reasonable cap hit and is a guy who slots in the top 4 on almost, or every, team in the league.
Are you saying he’s not worth a pick most likely passed 20th, a second and a young player under control? Or are you saying he is worth more?

The Flames tend to be more interesting off the ice than on it, regardless of whether you agree with the moves or not. Especially with Treliving, they're always in on it (whatever "it" is) and they don't have off years like they do on the ice.
