I still believe it will be the best thing for Canada in the long run, even though there will be pain in the meantime. I personally never liked NAFTA and its successor and the dependence it manufactured with the U.S. Not that I was pining to change it, mostly due to thinking it was too late and we were too far gone, but it it has to happen, let's lean into it.

I agree, and as in the other thread, its not the first time he's taken his ball and gone home.

The fact of the matter is, were it me, I'd be inclined to believe that this is a limp attempt to get Canada to negotiate against itself until America gets what it wants.

In which case...'the door swings fast, it'll hit you in the ass.'

Trump is way too flighty to organize any of this systematic stuff. This is straight form project 2025, to take over control of education and institutions. Any that don't follow the commandants from upon high will have their institution ruined until they comply, or are replaced if they can.

Almost anything Trump does is being telegraphed to him and orchestrated by others far smarter and more capable than him, and his gang of public facing ####faced lunatics. They are the distraction to the actual sinister work happening behind the scenes.

I don't think it's any more helpful to think Trump is behind these things than it is to give RFK's brainworm the excuse for his behaviour. That's what they want you to think. Because the reality is, there never was a brain worm. It's just the public scpaegoat.

And on that note, the tariff stuff is exactly how they want it to go. They don't want trade deals. They don't want certainty for anyone. Chaos and disorder help tear down institutions at home and abroad. Volatility opens up profit opportunities.

When you start to view all his trade actions throguh the lens of "Do everything you can to not make a deal" it makes a lot more sense. Why most media have never actually thought to ask and ponder that possibility is the only confusing part. Their stories would be more logical if they had this as a basis though.

Waiting patiently for a voice of reason like Danielle Smith to say that all we need to do is drop the digital services tax and everything will be good

Have Millennials Finally Figured Out How to Topple Boomer Bosses?
Inside the generational struggle at the heart of the New York mayoral race.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/s...e=articleShare

Quote:
The median age of a U.S. senator is the age at which many American retire. The last two presidents were born before the invention of the transistor radio and the hula hoop.

That question feels urgent on a national level, too, not long after a presidential campaign that featured a septuagenarian and an octogenarian, and weeks after the exodus of a lightning rod Zoomer from the Democratic National Committee.

The dichotomy of wizened experience versus fresh-faced enthusiasm has played out many times in the business world, too — in corporate boardrooms, where silver-haired executives debated their firm’s succession; on startup teams, where founders scratched their heads over whether to bring in veterans or workers with fresh ideas.

Examining 1,000 publicly listed firms, the study found that the older the average age of leadership was, the lower the firm’s vitality.

New York’s primary on Tuesday, to some, felt like a referendum on a particular old-school style of leadership. Amanda Litman, president of the Democratic group Run for Something, who last month published a book about millennial and Gen Z leadership called “When We’re in Charge,” saw the primary as “part of a larger changing of the guard.”

Trump hails 'giant win' after Supreme Court curbs judges' power to block his orders

The US Supreme Court issues a 6-3 ruling that will curb judges' power to block President Donald Trump's orders nationwide

Trump calls the decision a "giant win" and Attorney General Pam Bondi says it will stop the "endless barrage" of injunctions against the president's agenda

In a scathing dissent of the opinion, Justice Sonia Sotomayor says it is an "open invitation for the government to bypass the Constitution"

The case stems from President Trump's order to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and some temporary residents and visitors

This ruling did not directly tackle the constitutionality of Trump's order, a case likely to end up before the top court at a later date

There is a conservative majority in the Supreme Court and Trump appointed three of the nine justices

As a Gen Xer, it is kind of funny how that generation seems to be skipped over. I bet the there will be a Millennial president before there is a Gen X one. Not that I care or anything, it's just interesting to me. I think a big part of it is that Gen Xers to a large degree were led to believe that power gets handed down to the next generations, where as Millennials to the initiative to make it happen for them and not as some societal tradition.

As a fellow GenX I approve this post.

Start with a cynical you know what’s funny, then not that I care, then well probably our fault anyway as we were setup for failure.

That’s our generation in a nutshell lol

I’m curious to know what the UK gave Trump in order to sign their so-called trade deal with the U.S. a couple of weeks ago, which I might add is the only trade deal Trump has signed out of 100+ countries they’re apparently trying to negotiate with. And that July deadline that Trump imposed himself is coming up fast.

Also, notice how he says that we’re copying the EU and that he posts all of this nonsense just a few days after Canada signed a new security partnership with Europe. Seems like he’s just annoyed that we’ve been getting a lot closer with the EU over these past few months, and now he’s lashing out like the petulant toddler that he is.

On the other hand, SCOTUS just paved the way for gun regulation.

Executive Order

Immediate effect

Must be litigated to restore.

Some Local58 News (analog horror)...the Contingency episode...towards the end there's a brief flash of "the 51st state is not a place"

https://youtu.be/3c66w6fVqOI?si=iO2cHPdoTgOCzffA

Probably my favorite, sad that current events caused me to think of it.
