I also feel the "surveillance" and due diligence on determining if that person is a threat/pro-war supporter should be done during the visa application process, more so than after they have arrived. Basically if you feel you need to spy on a Russian arrival after they have arrived in the country, then you have already failed in the vetting process. Doesn't mean there aren't exceptions, but the overall vetting and investigating should be done prior to approval and the visa refused if there were any red flags.
Russians arrivals as a whole are going to get scrutinized a lot heavier anyways, now that easy and visa-free travel has mostly been eliminated by the West. Not a fan of spying on people who arrive here because they are from a certain place. That kind of investigating and prodding into someone's history should be done before they are issued a visa.

Very curious to see how people in this thread feel about these comments?
I suppose I should offer up my thoughts first: I'm very disappointed that this is being reasoned by the west. Especially when we have history to look back on.
Czech has a bit of a different relationship with Russia than most of the west. Countries like Poland and Czech who were under Soviet influence/control are going to be more aggresive about things than countries outside of the iron curtain.

One of the residents, Natalya Chemerchenko, told the governor in a post Thursday on the VK social media site: "Military personnel of the Russian Federation break into many houses (although the state of emergency has not been introduced and they do not have the right to enter private homes)."
"They live in our homes, lead an ugly lifestyle, alcohol and other things remain in the form of garbage and dirt, toilets and houses are polluted, personal belongings and property are stolen," she wrote.
"We do not want our houses, which have already suffered from the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to be now still a haven for the outrages of our defenders!" she added.
Vladimir Zhdanov, the head of the administration of the Shebekino district, told Chemerchenko in a reply that her "appeal has been forwarded to the Security Council."
Another comment, which was written Wednesday, claimed that Russian soldiers were living in a home that a family had fled.
“Two houses were broken into, one door was broken with a crowbar, windows were broken," according to a comment from local resident Danil Bilych.
"All things were turned over, they were looking for small precious things, some of them were stolen, there were acts of vandalism in one of the houses, TVs were broken, furniture was ripped up. Soldiers obviously live in the house," he added.

Some pretty intense (and graphic) trench warfare video on twitter today. Up close first person view of some Ukraine forces taking out 3 or 4 Russians in a foxhole with machine guns. Speculation online that one of them is Semyon Pegov - a known Russian war blogger.

I've seen the video. They put down double digits, not 3 or 4. It's... sobering. The first three they kill have no idea what is happening. The fourth one has a brief moment of realization before dying.
Are we allowed to post stuff like that here? Telewizja Polska, which is like Poland's CBC, has it up on Youtube. Mainstream media over here doesn't show us that kind of stuff. They have some pretty harrowing combat footage in general, including some by foreign fighters (Americans I think).

I saw another one today where the Ukrainian drone basically flies through the open driver side window of a moving car. They managed to take a freeze frame of the Russian soldier driver’s incredulous face before it hits. I have no sympathy for the Russian army so…..it’s not funny but it kind of is.
Its pretty crazy how technology is able to bring the war straight into our daily lives. The footage we are getting now is so detailed with first person POV, it feels like I am right there. At first it was shocking, now it almost feels routine. These are the horrors of war but I almost feel desensitized now and it doesnt sit right.
Not too mention up to the minute updates. At any time you can see or read where the front lines are right down to the street.

This is the invasion thread so people coming here are interested in war updates. Posting videos of said war with a spoiler or nsfw should be enough.
My personal opinion is that we shouldn't actually censor the brutality of war lest violence be downplayed in the future.

I don't watch the snuff videos not because I have some misplaced sympathy, but because it's really easy to dehumanize soldiers and it's hard to get that back. There's always a curiosity of what it looks like but I feel like I don't want to lose that part of myself

Apparently Israel is pretty put off with Russia's growing alliance with Iran. There is increasing talk that if Russia keeps using Iranian made drones, missile components, and other weapons against Ukraine, that Israel is going to increase their support for Ukraine.

Agreed. I don’t even like gore in movies, so I have very little interest in combat videos. Having said that, I’ve forced myself to watch a handful from this invasion. Sort of to ground myself in understanding the reality of it.
