That would have been something. 2nd yellow card for Ronaldo for smashing the ball into the net after the whistle.

This game is so bad for diving from both sides.
Guy tried to do a kick in the air, nicks the defender in the arm (guy also pulled back when he realized he was beat), the defender goes down like he's been shot with a hand on his face...
And yeah, Ronaldo's antics have been described fully by everyone else.

Ivory Coast had some late pressure but overall it was a pretty boring game.
Hopefully Brazil puts on a show in the next game similar to Germany.

Brutal another game of nothingness. I always get excited for the World Cup and it always fails to deliver. How to people think that ball control and 'flow' is remotely exciting?

6 of 13 of the matches so far have been ties. It's been a dud really so far.

Yeah both teams played not too lose. Cause a loss would have been disasterous. So now it becomes a contest or who can knick a point off Brazil or who pounds North Korea more. Although watching this Portuguese offense, I'm not sure they could score on North Korea.

Oh yeah, that Brazil game is going to be great watching them crush the worst team in the tournament. You know you have a low bar for excitement when you're really looking forward to that.

After today's game, it looks like the only way either of these teams will score on even North Korea is if they put there "striker" in goal
However, I am interested to see how N. Korea fairs against Brazil. I'm predicting 3-0 Brazil.

My advice for you would be don't watch the opening games then because almost all the teams are just looking to get points thus a lot ending in draws.

Yep, it's my problem and my high expectations of wanting to see two teams try to WIN a game. Soccer sucks.

I think the introduction of an offside line (like the blue line in hockey) would eliminate the cowardly offside trap, and significantly increase scoring chances.

If this is the case perhaps the tournament format should be changed so that teams aren't scared to death to lose the first match.

The later rounds aren't much better with teams trying to get to penalty kicks.

Good thing you're spending your time not only watching it, but also moaning about it here. Perhaps you should do something else, seems it would greatly improve your happiness.

Teams are trying to win but the penalty for losing is so heavy. Lose first game and you're pretty much out.
I have a proposal, Groups of 5. That way if you lose your first match you might still have a fighting chance and you need to win to get the 3 points cause only 2 out of 5 teams advance. 1 win and 3 draws probably won't cut it.

I would love to see that happen but how would you go about that? At the end of the day though, there will always be teams that just try to lock it up until teams that play offensive get rewarded and start winning the World Cup.

True. That is why I don't want teams like that to win. I always prefer for teams that open it up and go for the win i.e. Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Argentina etc.

Do you have a team to cheer for? If you don't, watching any sport is tough. I don't like any NBA, NFL or MLB team so watching some playoff games in those sports wouldn't hook me.
Stop watching for goals, football isn't as high scoring as sports in the US. The global outreach of the game and the passion for is what sets this sport apart. It's amazing how passionate everyone is about it, like hockey in Canada. There is no sport in the US that means what football does to 98% of the world or hockey to us Canucks. If you were in a country while their team played in the WC, you'd be floored by how into it the whole nation is and how all cities shut down to watch the games.

The issue with that is the expansion of the field. I'm not in favor of any plan that will let more weak teams into the tournament.
