In the category of Sci-Fi the B-List Celebs are proud to select The Terminator!
In the future, Skynet, a computer system fights a losing war against the humans who built it and who it nearly exterminated. Just before being destroyed, Skynet sends a Terminator back in time to kill Sarah, the mother to be of John Connor, the Leader of the human resistance. The terminator can pass for human, is nearly indestructible, and has only one mission, killing Sarah Connor. One soldier is sent back to protect her from the killing machine. He must find Sarah before the Terminator can carry out it's mission.
Here are the videos that I promised from my latest pick.
You can't stop the Terminator
Arnie the Surgeon
Gun Shopping
Terminated!
Amazing movie especially when you think of when it was made.

Well don't I feel dumb. I was sure that this was picked previously so picked another movie as my Sci-Fi pick instead. Turns out is was Terminator 2 selected previously. Serves me right for not checking it out properly. Great choice and a steal at this position!

Yea I had the same thing where I was sure it was gone but I could not find it on the list, only T2. I was so happy.
D'oh. I was waiting for Ro to make his re-pick and didn't notice that it was done as an edit.
"I'm walkin' here!"
No time for a write-up, but my next pick is in the Best Picture category, the only "X-Rated" film to ever win the Best Picture Oscar, Midnight Cowboy.
Great pick.
This movie opens with one of the all time great songs to open a movie, IMHO. Everybody's Talkin' by the grossly underrated Harry Nilsson. Though the version I prefer is not the one in the lead in, the song is one of my all time favorite songs. In fact, we may just revisit this song in a future pick of mine!

While channel surfing, I just happened upon "American Movie" the documentary doozwimp picked earlier in the draft.
It's on Bravo (Shaw ch36, Bell ch620) right now til 1am Calgary time. I can't believe what I'm watching!
In the 12th round, Selfmade Heroes picks Thin Blue Line (1988) in the Documentary / Nonfiction category.
"The Thin Blue Line is documentary film concerning the November 28, 1976 murder of police officer, Robert W. Wood. The police was unable to make an arrest until they learned of information that a 16-year-old David Ray Harris had told friends that he was responsible for the crime. Harris subsequently identified 28-year-old Randall Dale Adams as the murderer."
Possibly the best film by one of the greatest documentary makers, The Thin Blue Line was innovative in style, heavy in substance, thought provoking and absolutely captivating as a piece of storytelling.
That's What She Said is proud to call to the podium, from the Western category, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
This film, directed by John Ford, was destined to be a classic when you looked at the people involved in making the film. It featured Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne in the key roles of Ransom Stoddard and Tom Doniphon respectively with Lee Marvin as the nasty villain, Liberty Valance.
Stoddard is a modern man who comes out West believing that he doesn't need a gun and intending to set up a law practice and spread civilization to the wild Frontier in a town called Shinbone. He learns quickly upon his arrival in Shinbone that his idyllistic point of view is not shared by all when upon his arrival he is beaten by the outlaw Liberty Valance. He is rescued by Tom Doniphon, a man who is used to surviving in the West where might makes right and who tries to teach Stoddard the way things are while Stoddard stubbornly tries to change what is into what he wants it to be. This ultimately leads to a confrontation between Stoddard and Valance where the outlaw is killed and a legend born....but is it the legend everyone thinks it is?
Meeting Doniphon & learning about the Law in Shinbone...
"Pick it up!"
Video with Gene Pitney singing "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"
(which was not used in the movie but it's awfully catchy...but lookout there are plot spoilers!)

Very nice. If I hadn't picked up Alien early on, this would have probably been my second or third choice. Very stylish futuristic version, interesting social commentary, and really great acting by Ehtan Hawke and Jude Law.
Nice pick Jerzee...I was hoping to pick that one up next round.
Thanks Sadora - had been at the edge of my mind but I had a hard time believing it fell to this round! Was a really good flick imho and while I'm not a fan of Westerns much anything with both Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne is something I'll watch!
With our next selection team Yippie-Kay-Yay is very happy to pay homage to one of the greatest actors and select one of the greatest dramas at the same time:
Newman stars in the title role as Luke, a prisoner in a Florida prison camp who refuses to submit to the system. His inability to conform drives the plot of the movie. Luke is sent to the prison camp for cutting the heads off parking meters one drunken night. His unquenchable spirit makes the other prisoners idolize him. Luke becomes notorious for his escapes from prison.

Agreed! Gattaca is a great pick. This one has to be on the short list of great sci-fi films of the last 20 years. Worth a rental for those of you who haven't seen it, very well done and thoroughly entertaining.
