If red bull had a proper title challenger, Perez would be a serious liability.

I was testing the waters with racing over in Germany when I was over there in 2020 and the bureaucracy with racing licenses is amazing, just like everything else in Germany. Every level from entry to f1 is a series of licenses and experience. In some ways it made sense because in the sportscar races you can be running your entry level bmw in the same race as Lamborghinis so you need to know the etiquette but it makes for a long expensive climb through the ranks.

Well, he did guarantee a RB pole by crashing out on last lap and ending any last chances at faster laps, so there's that

Mercedes doing their best Ferrari impression. Things were looking great for Hamilton before the Tsunoda safety car.

Tsunoda thing was bizarre.
Good call for Russell personally, brutal call by Mercedes.
You leave both out, for team purposes, or you pit both. You don't do that

Hamiltons gone nuclear with anger. But I can't fault the Mercs for letting Russel go onto the softs. It was the right call.
Never thought I'd say this but Stroll had a strong race today. Good for him and good for Aston.
Verstappens got this title in the bag. Question will be now, how dominant can he make the win? What's the largest points gap in a title win in history?

Disagree
You either give upp the shot at a win and pit both, and finish 2-3, or you leave both out.
You don't do that. They hung Hamilton out to dry

Another snoozefest. F1 really needs to plan races around rainy seasons around the world minus the desert races.
and the announcers were on crack. There was NO WAY Mercedes could win today. Even if they allowed them to use supersoft tires at the end.

Russell forced their hand, he was coming in regardless. So they'd have to have hung Russel out to dry instead of Lewis. And then you would have made a terrible call on Russell which optically would have been far worse.
Russell was right.
I dont know. Everyone else and their dog changed to softs except Perez. Seems the only ppl who were wrong were Mercs strategists and they screwed Ham with indecision.

Yeah I'm guessing they finish 3-4 if neither pit, but if you think, as a team strategy that you could win, you have to try to hold up Max a bit.
Obviously pitting both would have resulted in a 2-3 finish.

Mercedes would ve been fools to think they could have held max up for the 15 or so laps remaining. Dude finished 4 seconds up at the end.

Yeah I don’t see any scenario where leaving them both out changes anything. Other than to make Lewis feel like they gave him the best chance to try and win. But either way, he wasn’t going to.
Even with George “blocking” Max, he would’ve been passed on the very first lap like Max passed Lewis.

Max timed his pass on Hamilton absolutely perfectly on the restart and didn't even need tires to do so seeing as he did it post apex on the bank and in the straight.
There'd have been no chance to shut Max out for the remainder given the tire difference.

Do not disagree at all. When you have all the information available you know, or should know, that any real chance for a win disappeared with the SC/VSC. You take your 2-3 finish and leave happy. That call should have come from Mercedes, not Russell.
Just saying if that's not your call, and you opt for track position, you need to go all in on it, even if it is wrong.

It's called a motor race Toto. Sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes they go against you.
I don't think Merc's 1 stopper would have worked out if there weren't any SC/VSCs, but it might have been close.
The Sainz overtake incident seems like bad race control/marshalling (yellow flags should be earlier on the pit straight, too).
The Sainz pit release seems like classic Ferrari foot shooting. There was a front-left mechanic who literally didn't do anything other than get in the way (not sure what his job is - maybe debris/wing adjustment?). I'm not sure if they factored into Sainz getaway any more than the McLaren crew, but it would have been within his line of vision that he's about to run over his own guys
Looks like these huge cars + 15 degree pit alignment doesn't quite work when everybody is in the pit lane..

Just re-watched everything from Sainz's onboard:
- he actually pitted on his 2nd opportunity under SC, after lots of typical Ferrari indecision throughout both laps
- the McLaren rear jackman (and jack) were totally in his way for a split second - the jackman's path to follow in behind the McLaren in overlapped with Sainz exit
- the front left mechanic with no job literally had to jump forward into Sainz as the McLaren buzzed by him, and then jump back out of Sainz path. I don't think he factored much into Sainz actions, but I think he was part of lots of information going to Sainz brain telling him he's about to run people over.
My first observation is that they should limit the number of mechanics allowed on the fast-lane side of the car. McLaren had 9 on the fast side and only 7 on the garage side, not including the 4 jackmen (front jack and both backups were on garage side). My best guess is that the extra guy (2 extra in McLaren's case) at the front left has a controller to hold the pit lights if there is a car coming, but I think that could be achieved from another position. Knock it down to 7 in the fast lane and make both jacks come in from garage side.
The other question is the wisdom of routing all cars through the pit-lane. It certainly makes sense if there is debris on track, but I'm not so sure for a simple car recovery. I think the problem was that the field was still spread, which takes me back to another rant about whether a SC is actually effective in the later parts of a race.
Now that refuelling is not an issue they could reconsider going back to pits open vs pits closed stuff...I'm not really in favour of that, except perhaps in the case where the whole field is being routed through the pitlane, where you could ban stops.
This was probably just a perfect storm of huge cars and tight pit-lane, but F1 still manages to miss some low-hanging fruit regarding safety.

Mercedes: Leaves Hamilton in P1 on old medium tires while Max pits for fresh tires during the safety car
Bono: Lewis, safety car is in this lap. Verstappen is behind you on fresh softs.
