2-1 win for Stockton over Texas Friday night. Heard and Mason Raymond with goals. Riley, Sieloff, Shore and Poirier with assists. Poulin stopped 35 of 36 shots. Kylington still out of line up due to concussion.

Shinkaruk came over and immediately dropped off his scoring pace.Small sample size I know but how come I saw this coming? Is Huska just playing a more defensive game or what?
He at least seems to be doing a pretty good job developing the Dmen.

Huska just sucks at playing Hartley's system. No coach wants to be playing another coach's system. They want to implement their own and make a mark at the pro level. I recall the Flames even wanting Huska to use Hartley's terms.
I'm sure the Flames just wanted a compliant team player at the AHL level, not a neck-up sort of guy who adapts and strategizes. In turn, you get what you paid for.
The rest of the new California teams are doing pretty well too with San Diego averaging 8611. San Diego used to draw well in the old WHL as well. Surprisingly good hockey town.

What??? You mean systems can affect scoring stats??? No!!! You better tell that to all the fancy stats crowd who have completely written off our prospects after a season in the minors.
I'm not sure it's due to systems. Shinkaruk was 'the guy' in Utica. Their top scorer. He's farther down the depth chart in Stockton because the Flames actually have other good prospects. That means he won't have as much opportunity. It also takes a while to learn and get comfortable with a system. Just look at Dougie's transition to the Flames system. Takes a while before muscle memory takes over and you aren't second guessing yourself on the ice.
By all accounts the Flames are supposed to have an offensively minded system. It's not like they are preaching defense first down there.

Can you show me one who has based on advanced stats?

Take your pick. The fancy stats crowd have used them to write off a number of our prospects without acknowledging the systems they play in. Poirier has been a target this year. Jankowski has been a target for years. Hickey's numbers are down, so he's busting. Those are the highest profile guys, but you can toss in any name. The box score and spreadsheet set jump all over guys who don't meet some magic number rather than taking some time to watch the games and see how a guy actually plays the game.

Again, can you show me one?
We don't have very much to go on with advanced stats in other leagues so I doubt it
I just showed you three. Hey, add in Bill Arnold and Mason McDonald. Just from threads on this board today. Demko is better than McDonald, because of fancy stats. Hamilton is better than Arnold, because of fancy stats. Pick a Flames prospect and give the fancy stats set five minutes and they will dream up a reason why play X is better than one of our prospects. And you wonder why Brian Burke looks down his nose at the fancy stats set? That's exactly why.

Advanced stats like goals? Assists? Goals per game?
I've never ever seen what you're talking about. You haven't shown me anything. Demko has been better than McDonald because of performance and results. It's that advanced? Really?

If you were using fancy stats - you'd be much more impressed with the AHL Flames than if you used regular stats.
Fancy stats as in percentage of shots by teams show the Heat as one of the better teams in the AHL - much better than you'd see by looking at the standings.

Demko isn't better than McDonald in any shape or fashion. Jesus ####ing Christ I hate talking with people who think HockeyDB.com is the ultimate source on judging players. All you have to do is watch the two goaltenders play and you can tell who the better goaltender is. One has the huge advantage of playing behind one of the best college programs in the nation and the other has the huge disadvantage of playing behind a very mediocre team in his league. Again, if you actually watch the two goaltenders play you'd quickly come to conclusion which has the better skill set and has the greatest potential. It's like watching Jonas Hiller and Frederik Andersson while playing for the Ducks. Demko will be exposed when he doesn't play behind the top ranked Hockey East defense and McDonald will impress more when he plays behind a good defensive system.
