Draft Pick

Think they only get the 2nd if they made him a contract offer and he refuses to sign it

That's not true though..

Well, the question has already been posed on this forum, where would Hayes slot into our prospect hierarchy, and he's been talked about in our top 10 and top 1 or 2 on RW. Seems those are some pretty high expectations, no?

No, it speaks to our awful depth at RW more than anything else.

If I recall, the majority of posters had him in the 12-15 group, right around Arnold.

More points than Arnold playing on the same line. I'd argue that the only forwards who are clearly better prospects than Hayes are Bennett, Gaudreau and Poirier. In terms of "what could they do next year", I'd put him second behind Gaudreau, and in position of higher need.

The expectations of a hundred or so fans on this forum have no measurable affect on reality.

I would agree we're seeing this forum and others being overly focused on the Hayes sweepstakes. Its interesting to watch but I would be pretty surprised to find that he and his agent chose the Flames because his former line-mates were here. That should not factor into his decision.
The decision should be based upon what helps him succeed. If he thinks his former line-mates help bring him to the NHL, so be it, but that's weak. You have to be the best of the best to make a regular role in the NHL. Chemistry with two specific prospects out of thousands is not the way to choose.
Would like to have him for "free", but Boston or NYR are good fits too.

How about the reality that one of the best drafting and talent developing teams cut him lose?
Also, how do all the people that don't want to reform the line describe the Arnold signing?

That's an interesting way of wording it when the Hawks went on record saying they made him an offer and he elected to go to free agency...

What?! How did you arrive at that? I'm sure Chicago did everything they could to sign him.

What an odd question to raise. Arnold was drafted by the Calgary Flames ahead of Johnny Gaudreau, and they have invested a lot of time and resources into his development. He has acquitted himself well and is a good hockey player. Why wouldn't they sign him in any case? What the hell does any of this have to do with "reforming" ( sic.) the line?

Arnold was also widely praised by NCAA observers as a heart-and-soul player and a very good two-way forward. He played for Team USA at the World Juniors and U18s, too. He's got an excellent resume independent of Gaudreau.

"He's a solid two-way player whose versatility will serve him well at the next level. He earned the trust of the BC coaches early on, and has steadily progressed each year. He's a smart, industrious player who has improved his skating and is someone the team counts on in all situations."

So he will sign the same contract as Knight correct? Two years at the max bonus level?

More points does not always mean better prospect.
