Bennett's gone but I for one would welcome him back to the Flames with open arms if that opportunity ever existed.

Can he get 7x7?
|
No.
Conory has been clear. He is not chasing UFA's and paying a 29-year-old Bennett 7X7 would be terrible.
Also we need to stop worrying about Huberdeau, if we nail the next few drafts and draft high, he will be pushed down the lineup anyways. Those young guys will get him going.

7x7 would only take him to the age of 25.
18 year old Sam Bennett forever!

At 7x$7 for a 29 year old Bennett, that would be considered overvaluing him.

I think he will get that contract. Doesn't mean it is a good contract and it would be terrible for the Flames

Is 29 year old Bennett better than 30 year old Kadri?

Yes, Kadri didn’t break out until he was 31 and signed with the Flames when he was 32 not 30
Not counting salary has gone up in 3 yrs. Bennett at 7M is a deal. Someone will pay it easily

I think if this season goes as many expect and the Flames are a bottom 10 team picking high again in 2025 there would be next to no chance they would throw big money at Bennett.
I would say if this team dials it back a decade and is far better than anyone expects making the playoffs then I could see Bennett being a top target on July 1. He plays a style that all teams covet and is known in this market and has chemistry with the teams highest paid player.

29 Year Old Stanley Cup Champion Sam Bennett > 32 Year Old Stanley Cup Champion Nazem Kadri
I'm not saying that with any shade whatsoever on Kadri. You also have to remember Kadri had himself a crazy contract season in that final year while he won the Stanley Cup.
Sam Bennett is now in that contract year, is 3 years younger than Kadri was at the time, and hey...has 3 points in the first 2 games of the season.
Look out. Sam is going to get paid, and I'd expect it to be in that $8M range (or slightly above), and yes - he is absolutely worth it. Only way it ends up in the 7s is if it's an 8 year deal with Florida. If we're talking a 7 year deal, it'll be above $8M (assuming he has a decent contract year).
Bennett is everything you want in a player, unless you're the worst coached team in the league and management trusts their horrendous coaching hires.

8 million for an aging center that plays a hard game and whose career high is 49 points. What could go wrong...
He might get it but he sure won't be worth it after two seasons

You have been on board for a rebuild and turn around and say we should sign Bennett to a 7X7 when he turns 29, with a roster that will still likely have a Kadri and Huberdeau on it.
These contracts don't age well, we all know it. You are paying for past performance.

Would love Bennett back, but his probable contract doesn't line up with the Flames competitive timelines, unless something drastic changes.
Just wouldn't be an efficient use of money based on what stage we are at.

I agree he will be paid, but he's ideally to be part of a team that is close to winning a championship and has other key pieces already in place. And there is risk that the contract doesn't age well. If he helps get you a cup, that matters little.

Because he doesn't fit our timeline doesn't mean people undervaluing him.
Like you said if he hepl you win a cup who cares, when he hits free agency, the Flames are in the 2nd season of the rebuild.
