The Flames should be more worried about competing with the Oilers, not punching them.

I also don't see the Caps moving Wilson (has there been any rumours?)

Wilson does help them compete. Add Wilson and remove Lucic, and the forward lines are really strong:

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Pelletier
Mangiapane - Backlund - Toffoli
Dube - Kadri - Wilson
Coleman - Lewis - Duehr

Imagine Dube - Kadri - Wilson lining up against McDavid and Kane

I wish the Flames would take a flier on Korpisalo for the remainder of the year. UFA at the end of the year, low cap hit. Has a .914 save percentage on CBJ. Would at least be an instant upgrade on either Markstrom/Vladar.

Everywhere has different advantages. We got Brouwer because he was building a house here if I recall. I suspect you can build your team differently too based on your advantages or disadvantages. If it is harder to get players once they actually have some individual agency on where they are allowed to live, then build through the draft and try to sign them longterm after their ELC. Smart teams will do stuff like that.

Yeah, a boost in net and likely everyone is happy.

Flames get in, fans probably get a roster revamp in off-season.

Are people really concerned about building the Flames to compete with the Oilers?

Dude, I’m talking in this past decade or so. Lundquist was a factor until 2015 and back then they weren’t known as a destination team for some reason.

A lot of Flames fans still don't like Kadri.

There's a lot of evidence that the Oilers have been living rent-free in many Flames fans' heads since the playoffs last season.

That's quite the conclusion you're jumping to there.

But teams do look to see, and improve on, the matchups they expect to face in the playoffs. Di's using that doesn't mean anyone is living rent free in my head

A few people have mentioned making trades to compete with the Oilers, I assumed that's what you mean't. If not, I apologize.

I just remember when the Oilers were terrible they acquired Khabibulin and their media were talking about how good he was against the Flames. Didn't turn out well and It was pretty pathetic. I hope the Flames think bigger than building a team to compete with a PP specialist oriented team.

Not to mention a player like Wilson would give said PP team more advantages.

TBF any teams first order of business is to compete against their division. Which includes the Oilers who for the last few years have been close to the Flames in the standings. It’s beneficial to win those divisional games.

All teams are focused on the teams in their division - because that's who you have to get past in the playoffs.

Doesn't mean anybody is in anybody else's head
