There you go banging the drum about Andersson being a 2nd pairing dman again, in spite of the fact he was top 20 in ice time for defenseman. Rinse and repeat

No doubt. Anyone calling Andersson a 2nd pairing Dman clearly doesn't have a clue.
Best to just ignore people with such ridiculous views, and be thankful that those with opinions that matter (ie: NHL GM's/coaches/players/scouts) would all laugh at him along with us.

You don't trade a potential generational talent for a borderline #1C. That would be insanity.

Parekh is an immediate hangup once the first syllable is uttered. Same with Johnston.

This conversation really does feel like the Markstrom trade, but not in the way most of you think.
The Devils could have traded for Markstrom in the 2023-24 season and had they done so early enough, it likely would have moved them into the playoffs. Instead, the Devils decided they did not need to upgrade their goalie and missed the playoffs horribly. 10 points out. It was a total waste of their season.
The Stars are not in the same position but without an upgrade to their top pair RD, they are going to run back the same problem they had last season but now with less RD depth after losing Ceci and Dumba (although Dumba had negative value).
If they do not get Andersson, I do not think there is another option out there for them that will not cost bigger assets or require much more cap space.

Maybe Colorado would consider a MacKinnon and maker swap for Rasmus, Parekh, +?

Totally agree with this and there are a few teams in this boat. I figured because of that, one of the teams would step up already with a strong enough offer to make conroy pull the trigger. But the concerns for teams like Dallas is that he’s only a short term bandaid fix if he won’t re-sign, and they won’t want to give up ++ assets if they’re just going to be in this boat again next year.
Not really worried as there’s still a lot of time left before the season, and Andersson will hold good value in the season if things drag on that long. Generally, i just really want that dopamine hit from a big trade.

Just because someone plays a lot does not make them elite. He played so much because we didn't have a ton of defensive depth, and had no choice.
And he played poorly, the lowest plus minus in the league. And we were not even that poor of a plus/minus team.
2nd pairing on a good team, sorry.

I wouldn't trade Parekh for Johnston. But he has played 1 NHL game. Johnston is a proven NHL 1st line talent.
I don't think it would be crazy to say Johnston is worth more TODAY. Parekh might become elite, I certainly hope so and am as big a fan of his as any. But he has played 1 NHL game.

Consider that if we retain half and another team acts as a banker and returns half, someone can have Rasmus for the year at just over a million. There has to be some value to that, especially for a contender.

Nope. A 3-year ELC of Parekh far exceeds what Johnston is worth. Johnston would still fetch a hefty return, but his value isn't as insanely high with his new contract kicked in. Plus, he had a rough go at the playoffs.
