Hmmmm - I think Pelletier might be a better long term bet than Pospisil though.

Where was Frost playing in Philly's lineup?

I am higher on Frost from the times I've watched Philly.
I don't think it's a bad trade, I just think it's a high risk high reward trade, which is a fine strategy IMO.

Where is the High risk?
They were the 3rd lowest payroll before, and they still are.
They have another 2nd round pick from Colorado that’s right in the same zone as their own selection.
The NHLPA just released estimates saying the cap will be $113M in 2028.
They have to sign someone to get to the floor - they’re going with players in their mid-20s, one of whom is a bonafide natural NHL centre, the other a 2x 20 goal scorer coming off his first 50 point season, and who has been a lock for 35-40 his entire career.
All for a 2nd round pick and two players who have had the least to do with the team’s success all season.
It’s larceny of the highest order.

With the way the cap is rising, and the expectation that some teams will have internal caps, cap space now has little value with respect to taking on contracts.
However, cap space always has value, with respect to getting more players to improve your team. That's what Conroy should be doing with it. Oh wait...

It looks good on paper for sure, and I am hoping these guys pop a little bit (or even a lot) with a change of scenery.
Farabee had 22 goals and 50 points last year as a 23 year old. He has room to grow IMO

Seems like the cap-constrained Flyers had buyer's remorse with Farabee's contract and Conroy took advantage of that. Might take off any pressure Farabee felt to produce, as a result.

2nd C and Farabee was his 2nd line LW. That was the line up for the Philly game.

If Calgary could half that production at 250 points it could be a win.

Dreger was saying the Flyers had Frosts next contract pegged around 4m.
I suspect with the cap rising a long term deal for Frost with CGY is likely going to start with a 5.

Eh, I dunno... I've never been a big admirer of Frost or Farabee, I think they're good hockey players but nothing to write home about (which is basically what I would say about the guys we gave up... Pelts being a sentimental favorite aside). It makes the offseason smoother thou and give the line-up better balance so I guess I'd give the Trade a "B" grade for now.
I am happy that we're adding a bonafide Center thou. Team did need that.

But it has to happen right now to make sense!

I like that they gave Kuzmenko a chance to stick in the NHL for next year. He wasn't going to get a contract here, and may have struggled to find work elsewhere. This gives him his best chance to find chemistry with Michkov as his linemate. That may not have been a trade factor, but good on Conroy for giving him that opportunity

Very happy with the trade and Conroy did what he had to do. All the best to Kuzmenko and Pelltier. They seemed like character guys that were liked in the room. Hopefully the new guys have a seamless integration as the team feels very tight this year. Excited to see what they bring.

This made the Flames better for sure, but doesn't move the needle to make them more than a bubble team.

Does anyone have a read on what the Oilers' and Canucks' fan base are saying about this trade? Ultra salty or just regular salty?

As Conroy said yesterday, it was an upgrade he did, in part, because the roster "deserved it and earned it" with regards to a playoff push.
No way he's done before the deadline in 12 games (5 before break, 12 after) unless the team and results fall off a cliff.
