Other than the panel, the Hockey Night in Canada coverage of these finals has been dire. The inane interviews with celebs, the lacklustre play calling, and Don Cherry's decline from embarrassing to absolutely woeful. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm going to watch the NBC feed for the rest of the series. Sad.

Be hard pressed to find a much more difficult road than the Caps had
Jackets
Pens
Lightning

I agree. In a perfect world, they play 72-76 games. Playoffs start late March or very early April. It would move up the Cup 2-3 weeks. You would never have a June finals and for the most part be done before May long.

What I find remarkable is that TSN has the better post game coverage. Sportsnet owns the national rights and has the TV audience following the game and there is no way they are keeping that audience. Their post game coverage is abysmal. You would think they'd do everything in their power to maximize that but nope.

Ugh. I wish people could learn to read carefully before responding.

Resurrection did not call Red a "dumb strawman," he was unambiguously calling his assertions about Jets goaltending a "dumb strawman" argument. And as much as it hurts for me to say this, he is right.

Don't get me wrong: the Winnipeg Jets are no good, and they will never win anything. Better goaltending won't change that.

Ugh, I wish people would remove the stick from their butt before responding. It was a joke, next time I suppose green text is 100% needed.

I know he didn't call him a dumb strawman and was addressing his argument. He used you're rather than your, hence my joking.

LOL. Swoosh...

Sadly I was right when I said this would need a further explanation.

I wish people would read carefully, then they would have caught that.

I guess sometimes it's easier to flex some gramatical muscle than to read carefully.

I feel Vegas has been good all season long and took it to the next level for these playoffs. Washington on the other hand seems to elevate their compete in every single game throughout these playoffs. It wasn't very long ago the Blue Jackets were up 2-0 in the series and headlines were reading Ovi can't get it done. Fast forward a couple series and they look unstoppable.

They almost let the other team decide how the game is going to go and are able to match or beat the opponent on any style. Tampa tried the crash and bang in game 6 and Washington had the bruisers to match with ease. Vegas has tried the high speed heavy on the offensive side style and Washington has the superstars to beat Vegas at that game. Play a tight checking game and Washington has shown that they can prevent just about anything from developing through the neutral zone.

Take all of that, add some great goaltending and lucky post breaks and they are going to be very tough to come back on.

And this is why I'm happier for Trotz than I am Ovi (should the Caps close it out, that is). It takes great coaching to make these adaptations and win.

Once the Caps got the Pittsburgh monkey off their back, they have been dominant. TBH, they were unlucky to have not finished Tampa off in like 5 games, as they badly outplayed the Lightning in every game.

It certainly appears their goal scoring prowess wasn't enough to overcome a .906 SV% in Vegas series. Are you trying to say his .924 regular season SV% wasn't a major contributor to their regular season success? As a Jets fan you of all people should know that goaltending means everything given previous seasons. If Hellebuyck struggles next season I wouldn't count on the Jets making the playoffs regardless of how many goals they score.

I'm not prepared to make any proclamations over a 5 game series. The Jets were a great regular season team, finished 2nd, and made it to the West final. I am thrilled with how the year went and it was a truly fun and incredible ride. I'm happy to leave it at that. If you want to nail me down to why I think the Jets lost I'd chalk it up to 3 major things
1) Fleury had a save % of 960+ and stood on his head in games 3 and 4. He stole those games.
2) Hellebuyck was not only not as good, he actually let in some really bad goals in game 3 and 4 when the Jets had all the momentum and carried the play.
3) Vegas pressured the Jets a lot and caused them to be sloppy in their own end.

On the balance of play, the Jets skaters we're better than Vegas' ... but MA Fleury after 3 rounds of the playoffs had put up the best save % in the history of the league. It's hard to just blow past that and not put that as the #1 factor in the series. The Jets ran into a hot goaltender, and I can live with that. They will be back next year.

Yeah, you're missing "magic" there. The Jets lost because of magic. It turns out that magic is a pretty tough thing for an opponent to overcome.

Based on last game they seem to have finally turned into a pumpkin. All the shots that were deflecting in now stay out, all the shots that find their way through traffic hit posts, Holtby is finding pucks that Hellebuyck and Jones couldn't see. I wonder if you're a new Vegas fan if that sort of frustration is totally new to you. "WTF is this ####? How come the puck isn't going in the other guys' net anymore? Why isn't everything working out better than expected? Is this what hockey is like?"

I mean, who knows, maybe they'll get it back.

I'm not sure if you're trolling me, or, you believe that Vegas was just this years Cinderella team destined to lose in the finals.

Which team can make the playoffs in a league this competitive and balanced with goaltending thats bad? Is this really a bold statement in any way or just common sense? If your goaltender struggles and fails to achieve 915 or higher save % then.. yeah, you likely aren't making the cut.

I believe that they have either made a deal with the devil, or are employing some sort of wizard in their fancy stats department. Like, a literal wizard from Hogwarts or something. Perhaps some sort of elf sorcerer from Lord of the Rings, I don't know. But there's clearly no natural scientific explanation for the season and playoffs they've had.

If I had to guess, they offended their wizard somehow after game 1 of the final and have been struggling ever since.
